Vehicle Detail
This is a stunning, low mileage Alpine White Mercedes-Benz 280SL sports roadster, a very rare European edition with highly desirable features. This rare roadster features the high output European-spec DOHC 2.8-litre inline six, fuel-injected, backed up by a 4-speed manual gearbox. It comes with both tops - the factory hardtop and a beautiful German canvas soft top. It has ice cold A/C, great heater, excellent stereo with amp, and everything works, including the electric windows, electric antenna, all gauges, lights, etc. It is fitted with a remote alarm/locking system. I installed an extremely rare set of ultra light alloy 15" Route O.Z. German wheels that look terrific on this car and reduce unsprung weight (however, I can swap back to original factory steel wheels if you prefer that look). Note the flush composite European headlights, the slim, body-hugging bumpers, and the sporty Zender tail spoiler. This car turns heads! In case you're wondering, no, there is no rust on this car. And yes, it complies with EPA/DOT and passed smog recently. It has a new clutch, the A/C system was rebuilt, new battery, and I just had the seats reupholstered with gorgeous heavy gray-and-black tweed inserts. The European cars came with fabric inserts, unlike the US models. Fitted Mercedes floormats complete a beautiful interior. The car runs superbly - holds great oil pressure, no overheating, no leaks. It's faster than the big V8 American version, as it's lighter, revs quicker, and with the manual gearbox, is definitely sportier. Handles like a sportscar should, with new suspension bushings, shocks, mounts, etc. If the car has a fault, it would be the first-to-second synchro is slow. But unless you're speed-shifting up to second, it's not an issue. The body is original and solid, and although the paint looks perfect in the photos, it's not. There are some very minor scratches, dings, chips, cracking, etc., in the paint as you'd expect, but from 10 feet away it does look almost like new. The cracking is very small and subtle and mostly on the hood area and only visible if you've almost got your nose touching the car. Chrome is superb, all trim intact, and the trunk is spotless like the interior. With only 128,400 miles, it is a fairly low mileage example for 28 years old. I've owned the car for several years and truly hate to see it go, but personal finances necessitates its sale. NADA Classic car value for this year and model is $14,300 for Fair Condition, $18,300 for Average Condition, and $23,900 for Excellent Condition. This car is well above Average and closer to Excellent and should be valued at $20,000. No scammers offering more than my price or any of that nonsense. Buyer is responsible for shipping. Sold as-is without warranty. I've described the car to the best of my knowledge but with older cars, unforeseen problems can occur at any time, and so your bid acknowledges and accepts this fact. Note: The VIN listed in the auction form is not for this car - it is for my own 240D. I had to put in a VIN that eBay would recognize, as European VINs do not work in this auction format. So the true VIN of this car is: WDB10704210011018. Good luck bidding!
