Vehicle Detail

1989 Mercury Cougar XR7 Supercharged 3.8 litre V6 You are viewing a 1989 Mercury Cougar with the powerful hard to find supercharged V6. Between 1989 and 1990, Mercury only built slightly over 4000 of these cars. Now, most of the supercharged cars you find have rotten bodies and have been driven into the ground. This example is very clean and has no rust what so ever. It has many options that are hard to find even on today's cars. These include dual 12 way power seats, automatic lights with auto bright light dimming, power moonroof, automatic suspension and 4 wheel vented ABS disc brakes. First, I'll list the good. Less than 1000 miles ago, I had the auto transmission completely rebuilt. It now shifts perfectly and has a 12 month/12 thousand mile warranty. This alone was an $1800 repair. This Cougar has 4 V rated Good Year Eagle GT tires with approximately 2500 miles on them. The windshield was also replaced about 2 months ago. During this repair, the rubber window seal on the rear window was also resealed. I replaced both headlights with brand new units this spring. In April when the yearly inspection was due, the one and only spot of rust on the passenger floor board was repaired at a local auto body facility. Last summer, I had the upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, control arms/bushings and struts replaced. The sway bar bushings were replaced at the same time. The front brake rotors and pads have about 5000 miles on them. The driver's side power window motor and track have been replaced. Two summer's ago, the entire car was repainted and looks great. The factory subwoofer for the stereo has been rebuilt and sounds great. This car has a new water pump as well as a new power steering fluid cooling radiator and fluid line. Second, the not so good. Four days ago while driving on I95, the speedometer needle fell off the gauge and is laying inside the gauge cluster. I've contacted a couple of repair companies, but have not received a quote to repair this. In addition, the gas gauge does not work and has never worked since I purchased the car. There is a low fuel light on the dash that will light up and give you plenty of time to get to a gas station. The temp gauge, oil gauge, RPM gauge and supercharger boost gauge all work without fault. The A/C has been converted to R34, but needs to be recharged. The passenger seat motor does not move the seat forward or backward. The verticle adjustments, lumbar support and power side bolsters work properly. At my condo, there is a large pine tree that dripped pitch onto the trunk lid. I did not clean the pitch quickly enough and it left light spots on the trunk lid. I'm not sure if these can be buffed out, but I've only hand waxed the lid since this occurred. This is a very sharp, solid and reliable vehicle. I'm very proud of the fact that it has a very short list of faults. A very good example of the condition of the car can be described briefly by my visit to the transmission shop during the transmission rebuild. I was allowed to go under the car while it was in the air. During this, 2 separate mechanics approached me, asked me if it was my vehicle and then complimented on how great the condition of the car was. To be completely honest with any serious potential buyers, I don't NEED to sell this car and won't be upset if it doesn't sell. I know that it's a fast and comfortable car that has many miles of life in it. I'm only listing it for sale because I have limited parking space and another car on the way. If you have any questions, please contact me and I'll be more than happy to help. Also, if a buyer has a reasonable offer, please don't hesitate to contact me with it. Thank you for viewing my listing!
