Vehicle Detail
For Sale: Custom Jeep CJ7 with full fiberglass body with AMC 360 and hard doors/top. Condition: This is a used Jeep that is technically a late 70's model, however it has been retitled in 1997 due to fiberglass body and engine upgrade giving it a new Missouri Highway VIN and title. The official title as I have it registered in the state of Missouri, plates and insured is "1997 Jeep Utili Specially Constructed Motor Vehicle". In the state of Missouri, this exempts me from emissions but not safety inspection. Your state may vary, so keep that in mind. I do have current plates on it and vehicle is street worthy. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Drivetrain A) Dana 300 Dual stick transfer case. B) Dana 44 axles front and rear. The rear has a locker and the front has Warn disconnect hubs. C) Rear driveshaft is from Driveshafts Unlimited in Imperial,Mo and includes a CV joint. I have the original without CV for a spare. Front driveshaft is to my best guess factory, but have never had any issues with it. D) TorqueFlight 727 transmission (modern Dodge 1/2 tons still use models with similar parts) and is very strong for an automatic. It has a small transmission radiator attached to the master radiator. This has a new trans pan from Southtown Dodge on Lindbergh ($70). E) 4 wheel disc breaks. F) 35” x 14.5” Mickey Thompson Baja Belted on American Racing wheels (I don’t remember the model numbers). It has a full size matching spare, however, it’s on a white wagon wheel instead of the chrome AR wheels. G) 30.5” garage wheels. In order to park it in our garage, we have this smaller set of “garage tires” which allows it to barely get under the garage door with the hard top on (within an inch or so). Engine/Fuel Engine has a bunch of upgrades. Top half was upgraded in the last 20 or so miles, so it's still in the break in period. I have receipts/pictures of most of the upgrade, if you are curious about it. Also to note, it's an AMC 360/5.9L engine. This was never an option in a Jeep CJ. The 304/5.0L was the biggest available from the factory, so obviously, a 360 was an aftermarket upgrade. I believe it came from a 77/78 Grand Cherokee or Wagoneer. Most of the upgrade parts came from 4wheel drive hardware (www.4wd.com) or Summit Racing (www.summitracing.com), so it won’t be hard to figure out what they are as they usually only have one performance upgrade option for the 360 engine. A) Edelbrock Carb (4wd.com - 1406 - $345) B) Edelbrock Performer intake manifold (4wd.com - 2721 or 3721 – can’t remember if it’s the EGR model, so I’ll note that it’s one or the other.. $260 or $290?). C) Edelbrock Timing Chain and Gear set (4wd.com – 7818 - $60) D) Crane Cam and lifters (4wd.com - 863902 - $187) E) Harland Sharp roller rockers- S40046A - $463) F) Crane chromoly push rods (4wd.com – 8671316 - $90) G) DUI Distributor custom built for this motor (4wd.com - P/D40820 - $300). H) Fuel pressure regulator ( advanced autoparts $20) I) Edelbrock valve covers (4wd.com - EDE4431 - $44) J) Oil Pan with slam guard. (4wd.com - 262887 - $150) K) New Melling Oil pump, oil pump cover (not sure of brand), and Melling pickup installed. 4wd.com - OAI17433.11, CRO33003536, and OAI17433.12 – ~$80). L) FlowKooler High flow water pump. (summit - BRA-1781 - $80) M) Power steering pump. This has been there for a while but has a new high pressure hose. N) BombProof motor mounts from www.mountainoffroad.com (not installed yet) $165 O) Radiator flushed by radiator shop in Arnold, Mo P) Electric Fan mounted to radiator. Q) Less than 3 tanks of gas in a new poly fuel tank and filler hoses. (4wd.com – Can’t remember cost) R) New electric slave fuel pump. (autozone- “Mr. Gasket” brand. ~$25 S) Less than 5 tanks of gas on primary mechanical fuel pump. (4wd.com $?) T) Dual batteries. I currently only have one in there, but it is setup for a second. The winch slaves to the second battery U) Brand new thermostat (autozone ~$10) In the cabin: A) New Digital gauges replacing all except Speedometer (original Jeep speedo), Tachometer, and a brand new analog temp gauge (digital temp gauge is giving erroneous reading, so this was to help troubleshoot). B) JVC CD player (detachable face) with Pioneer 6x9” in back and 4 ½” in the dash. I currently have the player pulled as I was working wires under the dash and this made some extra room. It can be remounted prior to sale and I have the remote for it too (not sure if you want it just sitting in it on the lot). C) Grant steering wheel D) New CB, been used once. Needs a new whip antenna, or resolder the old one. Also will throw in a new PA horn that I haven't mounted yet if I can find it in the garage (needs cable run for it and mounted which should be an easy job. I pull the CB when it’s not in use as it’s to easy for it to walk off. E) 4 point racing harness in front two bucket seats. Bench seat in back with traditional lap belts. There is sun fade on back seat as it’s starting to show it’s age. Front seats are in great shape. F) I need to hook the heater back up. I was cleaning up wires, so I simply need to plug it back in. It works great. No AC G) B&M Truck shifter on the floor (automatic) H) I believe this was originally a manual as the clutch pedal still exists, but is tucked up under the carpet in case anybody ever wanted to convert it back. I) Dual tone Air Horn. Outside: A) Full fiberglass body (no rust!!!) This includes full fiberglass tub and a one piece fiberglass hood with air scoop on hood. These are over $2500 to buy new. B) Hard Top with good rear window C) Bikini Top (covering only front seats). D) Full steel doors with matching yellow paint E) Highlift jack. I have a rebuild kit for it that I’ll include, but haven't installed it yet. F) Full roll cage including front windshield hoop. It needs final tie in to the frame, but should be easy job for somebody with a welder and minor fabrication skills G) KC High Lites mounted to windshield hinges. H) Side mirrors are mounted to window hinges, so doors can be fully removed and stay legal. I) Full size Mickey Thompson Baja Belted spare tire . J) Full size swing out tire rack welded to steel bumper, not weakly bolted to the body like most factory ones. K) Full size cooler rack above the tire rack. I've had two adults standing on this with no problem. It can be easily removed if you don't want it on there (it's right about forehead level, so I've knocked my head on it a couple times and usually leave it off unless I need it) L) Warn Winch. M) Nerf bars. N) There is a unique air shock on both rear wheels that is in addition to the normal shock. There are air valves mounted to the bumper that allow more or less air to be applied to them. I’ve never used them or played with them, but unique none the less. Prior owner added them and I’ve never had time to play with them. O) Trailer hitch. There is no trailer wiring harness, the hitch is incredibly high, and the spare tire hangs out almost 15 inches, so it’s not good for much other than a recover cinch point (I do not have the clevice receiver) Exhaust: A) Dual exhaust. B) No Catalytic converters! This is a special purpose vehicle and does not require them per St. Louis County titling requirements (no emissions test!!!!!) I do have a brand new pair that I bought from Summit Racing, but decided not to install them since it wasn’t required. C) Brand new welded seam Thrush mufflers (less than 15 miles on them). These are not the cheap rolled seam ones. D) Exhaust Manifolds were pulled, wire brush cleaned and repainted with a thick black, high temp ceramic coat paint to help keep heat away from the engine. Lift: This is a suspension lift, not a body lift. With that said, it is a leaf spring lift with an axle over conversion. In addition, the font has had the shackle reversal which puts the hinge side on the front and the shackle on the back of the leaf spring. I don't know the exact height of the lift other than to say it easily houses 35” x 14.5" tires. I suspect 39" might fit in there with no rub, but never tried. Todo's: It's a Jeep, they need stuff done, otherwise, they wouldn't be a Jeep and in proper disclosure, here's my list of outstanding todos. These are in no particular order, so some may seem pointless and others are worth putting higher up on the maintenance list. Again, this isn’t the end of the world, but things that were on my “get around to it” list. A) Winch needs a new cable. Current one is functional, but could use a new cable. It works fine with the cable clamp, but it would be nice to change it sooner or later. I included a closeup picture of the front bumper which shows the cable/clamp. B) Windshield will need to be changed sooner or later. In the middle top, it's shattered where the the the winch cable busted and reflected up. It's not in line of site and since the window hoop of the roll cage covers a large portion of it. C) One of the tires (the front right) slowly leaks over a month or so. It runs Mickey Thompson Baja Belted which are readily available, so it shouldn't be a big deal to change it. I haven't put enough miles on it to put it high on my list of todos.D) Paint touch up on hood where winch cable reflected off of it. It’s a fiberglass body, so no rust, no hurry. History: I am not the original owner of this. It's a 30+ year old Jeep, so it has some history. I bought it back in 2000 and have played with it for quite some time. I know the prior owner (and still have a copy of his title) who replaced it with a CJ5 and have met the prior owner who did most of the major modifications (I've seen his current truck which is pretty amazing). As far as I know, this has always been a secondary vehicle for at least myself and the prior owner, so the mileage has always stayed low. I've put less than 1000 miles on it myself and the prior owner kept it less than 3000 miles per a copy of his title. Questions you are probably want to ask: Why are you getting rid of it? A: I barely drive it and want to buy a camper. Pretty straight forward. It's a blast to drive, but my priorities and interest have changed in the last 10 years (along with my hair style) Could it be used as a daily driver? A: I personally chose not to drive it daily as I have young children in car seats and a newer vehicle with four doors. AC is nice with kids. Your comfort zone is different than mine. What's the deal with the Custom Title. A: As i noted above, I believe that it was from the fiberglass body and engine conversion. My best guess is the new body required a new VIN tag which Missouri Highway takes care of. My understanding is that they have a pretty strenuous inspection program to prove road worthy vehicles before they will issue a VIN. Both my current Certificate of Title and the copy of the prior owner's title do have the consistent VIN listed as seen on the imprinted VIN on the Jeep.Trades as funding? A: Maybe. As I said, I'm looking to sell the Jeep to buy a camper, so a newer 1/2 ton towable travel trailer might be negotiable. I have well over $7500 invested in the Jeep if that gives us a starting point, but willing to negotiate prior to auction ending (plus or minus money if it's a fit). If this is of interest, please contact me before the end of auction.Seriously, how big is this? A: I included a picture with our family minivan (which is not part of this sale!). Feel free to speculate on size from that. If it's really important, I can go measure it. I know that in order to get it in my garage in which I can fit a full size 1/2 ton truck, I have to change the tires from 35" to 30.5" and this gives me about an inch to spare. Is title clear? A: Yes, very much so. I have no outstanding liens and am current on plates/tags/insurance. This is pretty much a transfer money, sign and go sort of deal.Is there a Reserve? A: Yes. I'll be upfront about it to assist in your bidding/buying/borrowing money from mom/whatever. It's low in comparison to what I have invested as I have over $7500 in the Jeep, so this doesn't come close to my investment which is my loss/your gain. My reserve is $4000.Can you get me a picture of something? A: Sure, tell me what you are looking for and I'd be happy to email a high quality photo. I'd like to come see it. A: Sounds good. I live in St. Louis, Mo. Feel free to email me and I'll do my best to make myself available. I have questions? A: Great, I encourage them. Please submit question via Ebay or email questions to "jimbob173-jeep(AT)yahoo.com" (change (AT) with the @ symbol as this prevents a lot of spam coming my way) Shipping and payment: Closing will need to be done in person in St. Louis, Mo. Pickup will also need to be done in St. Louis. I do recommend trailering it as I have a bunch of spare parts and the "garage tires". I will accept certified bank check or Paypal. If you need to do a personal check, we'll need to do a waiting period to make sure it clears, but that would be possible. Winning bidder will need a $500 non refundable deposit within 72 hours. Disclaimers: I have done my best to include all information about this Jeep up to and including it's history. This is my best effort to be complete and honest. Please respond in the same. If you don't have the funds, please don't bid. If you have no intention to complete the purchase, please don't bid. If you really aren't interested in the Jeep, but have tech questions, feel free to send them, but please be understanding if I don't answer as my main interest is to sell the Jeep, not be your tech support guy. It's a used vehicle, so I have to include the standard "As is/Where is" label. Please ask questions prior to end of auction. Good luck in your bidding.
