Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 1967 Maserati Mexico Coupe. The car is a project car or parts car, and is an original matching number chassis and engine number AM 112*108 4.2 liter. The car has original silver paint and black leather interior with a repaint in white that is flaking off. It has the original 4.2 liter V8 engine and ZF 5 speed transmission. The car is a very good starting point for a restoration or could be an excellent donor car for another Mexico project. All of the body panels are straight and true except for slight damage to left front fender. Everything basic is there, suspension, steering box, chassis is in great shape with no damage, engine, transmission, all remaining glass is original with etched stamp, bumpers, headlights and interior, the car sat outside in Texas for about 17 years without being disturbed. The car is missing many trim parts, front windshield and trim, the tachometer, some door trim parts and the engine distributor. Some of these parts are common to many other models of the period, Ghibli, Indy, Quattroporte and can easily be found. The best parts suppliers are MIE and Maseratisource, both on ebay. The Borranni wire wheels and spinners are rusted but in great shape with little damage and can be restored, and the car rolls and steers freely and easily. Some further description just to be thorough. The driver's side vent window, radiator (which is in the trunk), and chrome trim for the front edge of the hood are included but in a box. The body panels are very good with only surface rust, however there is a good bit of rust at the lower edge of the wheel arches as well as in the rocker panels. The underside of the car and chassis is as mention, very straight and with little or no rust as the engine had an oil leak at one time the oil preserved the underside. As I was told by the previous owner, the engine was indeed running before the car was put up and the block appears to be fine. The engine will need to be lubricated, and worked loose to turn it over. The transmission shifts easily and appears to be in proper working order, of course the master and slave cylinders would both need to be rebuilt to disengage the clutch. There is no exhaust system on the car. The Mexico was one of the most exclusive luxury touring cars you could buy in 1967 and cost $14,000 new. This car is one of about 350 4.2 liter car made and there has been a lot interest in the Mexico recently as they are one of the remaining few hand built cars left, that are affordable for a restoration project. These cars were designed and hand made by Vignale and the attention to detail remarkable. When done correctly, they have fantastic performance as the engine was developed from the 5 liter racing engine of the late 50's and has loads of torque and sounds great. Here is a video, as a point of reference, of a really nice Mexico in Australia that recently sold for $80,000, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B87KhT8dr94 The car comes with a clear title issued to the last owner in 1988 from Louisiana and was last driven in 1993. I can help with shipping if required. The car is currently at a storage facility in Richmond, California just across the bay from San Francisco and can easily be picked up by a car haulers ( I recommend Intercity Lines, Horseless Carriage or Hog Haulers) and I can also have the car delivered, at the buyers expense, to the Port of Oakland which is close by for shipping to Europe. The car rolls fine and the parking brake works fine so that the car can be shipped. This is a no reserve auction, highest bidder wins. Please bid only if you intend to buy the car, a pay pal deposit of $500 is due 48 hours from the end of auction, otherwise I will relist the auction. The balance can be wire transfer, bank check or cash upon picking up the car. Checks must clear before car can be released. Thanks for looking at the auction. Please email any question that you may have and I can be reached at 415 533-5785.
