Vehicle Detail
This is a very RARE 1987 mercedes Benz 190e 2.3L 16 valve Cosworth engine design. It is a one owner car and I have the original title. Yes the car will need a paint job! The car was just washed before photo was taken today. The car is showing 105,000 miles but true miles are unknown? The orginal owner signed the car over for sale in 12/20/2003. And NO one ever transfer title into the new owners name. The car was finaced when it was new with only 469 miles at the time in 7/87 when lien was issued and the finance company signed off the title on 4/19/93. The car has been in storage since about 2003 or so. It has a clear open title. But remember it was last registered on the road in 2002/2003. It was kept in a warehouse in Orlando Florida up intill when I got it just a few months ago. According to the person I bought it from that the motor was redone about 30k miles ago. I don't know if this is true or not? I bought the car for something unusal! I couldn't find an M5, M6, or M3 that I could afford or that was desent that I wanted, so I worked on this till I found something that I truely wanted or would like better. I have had two new bosch fuel pumps, fuel filter, fuel pump bracket hanger, tank bottom boot, tank vent valve, expansion tank cap, thermostat, spark plugs, fuel strainer, fuel strainer o'ring, radiator flush up-graded thermostat housing, upper radiator hose, hose clamps, a brass fitting, non phosphate coolant and high test fuel with the gas tank being redone from the inside out. Replace any broken or missing spolier trim pieces as well along with extra hydrolic fluid for suspenion. new window wiper blade insert. All this work and parts totalling around $2300-2500 dollars out of my pocket within the last few months from a long rest in a warehouse. The car comes with a spare parts car: smoked silver/ bronze, also a 1987 190e 2.3 16v cosworth it is only a rolling chassy. No engine or tranny in the parts car. It has a NC title for use in scrapping the car when done The trunk is filled with misc. computer parts and self leveling components door panel and so on. All good and can be used for the main car. The parts car also has limited slip differential in it also to maybe replace the winey sound of the old one. The parts car also has Eibach lowering springs that need to be taken off and used on this car if you choose. It has large sway bars and brake set up. The parts car is missing the front spoiler and front fender trim but rear bumper and side trim is still there. I got it as a project, from what I said earlier, but don't have the time to make it showroom or close to. . I have most to all of the original books: including the service manuel and owners manuel with the orginal owners name that appears on the title. for the main car being sold. . This car with crank and run but it does have a cold start issue. It may need an adjustment or a cold start valve perhaps or other similar item. Once I get it cranked it runs good. With a little TLC this car is a really special car. They only made 2000 of these cars in 1986-1987. You could only get them in the two colors that I have. Only 700 were made in 1987 which is the year of this car. It has a dog-leg 5 speed transmission for quicker shifting with 1st gear bottom left. The a/c does work but sometime blower motor makes noise. I have rear 2.3_16 emblem if anyone is wondering. This Mercedes was built to be competitive to the BMW M3 during that time the E30 from 1987 to 1991. It is very fast and runs strong. It has nice large headers. Somethings that might need attention: the limited slip diff, sometimes makes noise I have a good one out of the parts car it will need the rear view mirror holder, radio doesn't come on may need a fuse? Have radio code card. I don't see any rust or dents. If there is any they are very tiny. But it will need a paint job for sure! The windshield has a tiny crack chip, but the parts car has a good one if you are picky? the digital clock LCD screen is broken in the console near the battery gauge. The interior is somewhat clean and nice, it couse use a dye job to take away the light scuff marks in the rear seat areas, The dashboard does have a few cracks to it. The rear back seat near first aid kit has 2 seams pulled apart. The tires all match and have very good tread but may need to be checked for possible flat spots. I would check the self leveling system for correctness, I have 2 good set ups in the parts car. 16v differences Due to their performance, the 16 valve cars were different from the other 190 models. The body kit on the 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 reduced the drag coefficient to 0.32, one of the lowest CD values on a four door saloon of the time, whilst also reducing lift at speed. The steering ratio was quicker and the steering wheel smaller than that on other 190s, whilst the fuel tank was enlarged from 55 to 70 L. The Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox was unique to the 16 valve and featured a 'racing' gear pattern with 'dog-leg' first gear, left and down from neutral. This meant that the remaining 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears were in a simple H pattern allowing fast and easy selection. The gearchange quality was, however, noted as "notchy, baulky"[5], criticisms which weren't levelled at the BMW M3 (E30) which shared the same gearbox. An oil cooler was fitted to ensure efficient oil cooling for the inevitable track use many of these cars were destined for. The strictly four-seater interior had Recaro sports seats with strong side bolsters for front and rear passengers. 3 extra dials - an oil temperature gauge, stopwatch and voltmeter - were included in the centre console. The 190 E 2.3-16 was available in only two colours, Blue-Black metallic (Pearl Black in the US), and Smoke Silver (which looks gold). The 2.5-16 added Almandine Red and Astral Silver. All 2.3-16 valve 190 models are fitted with a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) as standard. They were also available with Mercedes' ASD system which was standard equipment on the 2.5-16v. The ASD is an electronically controlled, hydraulically locking differential which activates automatically when required. The electronic control allows varied amounts of differential lock from the standard 15% right up to 100%. It is not a traction control system however, and can only maximize traction rather than prevent wheel spin. Activation of the ASD system is indicated by an illuminating amber triangle in the speedometer. The suspension on 16 valve models is very different from the standard 190 (W201). As well as being lower and stiffer, it has quicker dampers, larger anti-roll bars, harder bushings and hydraulic Self-Levelling Suspension (SLS) on the rear. This allows the rear ride height to remain constant even when the car is fully loaded. Engine The Cosworth engine was based on the 2.3-liter 8-valve 136 hp (101 kW) unit already fitted to the 190- and E-Class series. Cosworth developed the cylinder head, "applying knowledge we've learnt from the DFV and BDA"[4]. It was made from light alloy using Coscast's unique casting process and brought with it dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, meaning 16 valves total which were developed to be the "largest that could practically be fitted into the combustion chamber"[4]. In roadgoing trim the 190 E 2.3-16 produced 49 hp (36 kW) and 41 ft·lbf (55 N·m) of torque over the basic single overhead cam 2.3 I4 engine on which it was based. The 2.3 L 16 valve engine made "185 hp (137 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 174 ft·lbf (235 N·m) at 4,500 rpm, the oversquare 95.50 x 80.25 mm bore and stroke dimensions ensuring that it revs easily up to the 7000 rpm redline"[5]. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) was less than eight seconds, and the top speed was 230 km/h (143 mph)[5]. US-Specification cars had a slightly reduced compression ratio (9.7:1 instead of 10.5:1), and were rated at 167 hp (125 kW) @ 5800 rpm and 162 lb·ft (220 N·m) @ 4750. The roadgoing version of the engine was reconfigured with reduced inlet and exhaust port sizes, different camshaft profiles, no dry sump configuration and Bosch K-jetronic replacing the specialised Kugelfischer fuel injection. These changes helped bring power down to the required 185 bhp (138 kW) specification, but still resulted in a "remarkably flexible engine, with a very flat torque curve and a wide power band"[4]. The heads for the engines were cast at Cosworth's Coscast foundry in Worcester and sent to Germany to be fitted to the rest of the engine, parts of which were different from the standard 2.3 including light pressed alloy pistons, and rings designed to withstand higher engine speeds, whilst con-rods, bearings and bearing caps were found to be strong enough as standard and left unaltered[4]. Car is used and sold AS IS with NO warrenties. Please call me if you have any questions ...912.638.6181 EST. Motivated seller must sell!! .Please email me or . . I would also consider part cash and a complete BMW M5 (E28) that is running but needs work or complete rolling chassis minus drivetrain. cars are both as-is!
