Vehicle Detail

I am moving to Europe in the fall and so I am reluctantly realizing that it's time to sell my dream car.It is a 1991 535i (E34), which is one of the most gorgeous cars BMW ever made... -it's black on black, no tears in the leather or cracks in the dash -has wood trim -has tinted windows -auto trans -13 button on board computer -two functioning cigarette sockets -cruise control, AC, Ipod adapter, after market Clarion stereo -power windows/mirrors/locks/BOTH front seats/sunroof etc. -all weather floor mats -Bosch ICON wiper blades It spent most of it's life in California and that last couple of years in Oregon. It has a clear title and has never been in a wreak (one of the previous owners caused some minor white scratches on the passenger side front bumper and there is a scratch on the top of the trunk lid, see pics). I got this car in August of last year (not running) and have put a lot into it, including: -transmission -water pump -fan clutch -heater core -thermostat -the interior center counsel -rear drivers side tail light -wheels (new tires in the fall) and other little interior parts and fuses. It recently hit 200,000 miles, but as many people know M30 engines are among the most reliable and resilient ones BMW ever produced and are more than capable of reaching 300,000+. When taken care of it is a very quick, responsive and exciting engine. The car is currently registered, has Oregon tags that are good until 12/2011, passed DEQ last November, still runs and drives, starts and stops... However, it started making a humming sound last week (not in the engine itself but more like the transmission) and after having my friend check it out and replace the ATF and put in a new filter the sound was still there. Since then I have had it parked in my driveway and haven't driven it because I don't want to potentially aggravate the problem and make it worse. But I drove it home from the shop (about a 10-15 minute drive) and it was fine, besides the sound it drove normally. Since it has been parked I have noticed some oil on the driveway, and last time I started it there was a little smoke which I assume is the engine burning off the excess oil. The "break lining" warning comes on when you start the car but after having some one check it out I was told that even when you replace the brake linings themselves, the sensor can still come on unless it is also replaced. Other minor flaws include the passenger side door lock being out of sync with the others, the interior lights are out (but that is only because the fuse needs to be replaced-easy), the back door panels are stretched about 1/3 of an inch but after some elbow grease and creativity you can't really tell, and the CD player has just stopped reading disks (not a problem for me since I only use the radio and my Ipod which the stereo works perfectly for). Since I am no longer dating a mechanic it isn't really a practical option to keep the car, so I am hoping to find another enthusiast that appreciates E34's and isn't afraid of doing some work on it. I know that there are some local yards here in Portland that sell used E34 transmissions for under $200, and for labor I got a quote that it would be around $300 to put in. But if you are mechanically minded it is a great opportunity. It was my daily driver and is a very fun, safe and comfortable car to have. This car has great potential (KBB values it at a little over $2,000 even after I entered the mileage and put it as 'fair' condition). I know from personal experience that 535i's are becoming scarce (compared to 525i's and later 530i's and 540i's) and since black on black is timeless , and not all E34's had wood trim this car is a very desirable model. I would recommend towing the car at this point because I am not sure it should be driven until it is checked out. Ideally I would like to find someone who is willing and able to take care of this Bimmer the way it should be! Email me with any questions!
