1981 AMC Spirit in impossible state of preservation. No rust, no problems, no miles, just faded original paint. Car is equipped with its original GM 4 cylinder "Iron Duke" engine, with automatic transmission, power assisted front disc brakes, fold down rear seat, and even has Air Conditioning and intermittent wipers! It spent its life in Florida, but after the passing of its original owner, a friend of the family, and member of my local car club had it transported to Chicago where legendary classic car mechanic Larry Claypool was commissioned to bring it back to life. New tune-up, new hoses, new radiator, new heater core, new gas tank sending unit, new brakes, new tires. He even added a tachometer. This car is mechanically perfect and gets 25-30 mpg! I bought it to use as a daily driver, but I can't bring myself to load miles on the car. It's just too special. I'm in search of a small pick up truck instead. The color is AMC's "Vintage Red Metallic", and it's pretty faded after nearly 30 years. The first picture shows the car wet so you can see how stunning it would be if buffed out or repainted.
