Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my father’s Oldsmobile. He bought this a few months ago and we did some work on it in a father/son project. However, I have an newborn and am moving and he doesn’t have a job - no sob story, just the way life goes. We just want to get back close to what we put into it. As you can see from the pictures, the Hurst trim is in need of some attention along with the clear coat. The finish isn’t the prettiest, but you could drive it like this if you wanted. This is a 1983 and is equipped with the following: - High Output 305 V8 - Two - 4 barrel Quadrajets - the original one is off the car, but comes with it. - 200 R4 Transmissions - Overdrive Transmission. - 10-Bolt Posi Rear - Power Front Disc / Rear Drum Brake setup - Power Steering - Air conditioning that has been converted to 134a. Don’t know if it works. - Cruise Control - Rear window defogger - Performance Wheels - T-Tops - Rear air shocks (like is cracked, so they don’t hold air) - Power Windows - Power Locks - Power driver’s seat, but needs work (can hear motor running, but doesn’t move the seat). This will be a great starter for a project for a first car or a total restoration. Here is what it needs for either: The car is missing the original shifter. The guy who we bought the car from kept them to use on his racecar. He showed them to us and they were pretty neat - there were three shifters and it was a race-inspired setup. He called the Lightning Rods and showed us a magazine add about them, but wouldn’t sell them with the car. Since this is the same body as the Monte Carlo we were going to just get one of those, but we never got around to it. The shift cable comes out of the console and we just drove/shifted it like that. It isn’t pretty, but it works. We drove it from Dillsburg to York Springs like that without any issue. As for repairs, we did patch rust in the rear quarters. Where it was rusted through, we cut out the old metal and welded in new. There were other spots that had some surface rust and we sanded them down to bare metal. We primed it all, skim coated it and painted it with “original” color paint…it almost matches. Check out the picture sequence that I am posting - we did that with all the panels. The only place where we did not replace the metal was the inside of the passenger door. That was pretty far gone so we just bondo’ed it to pass inspection - we were going to replace the door, but like the shifter, didn’t get around to it. The floor is very solid with the exception of one spot that needs a patch on the front driver side where the floor meets the tunnel. It is about 2” from what I can see and should be an easy fix - again, we just didn’t get to it yet (see a theme developing). We think this is from the T-tops leaking, which can be easily replaced by replacing the seals on the T-tops / doors (one seal for both). The car runs and drives, but it has a wicked squeal when you start. We assumed this was the air conditioning belt, so we cut it off. The squeal remained. We think it is the water pump - we bought a new pump, but didn’t install it yet. That pump will come with the car. Aside from an exhaust leak behind the catalytic converter, this thing should be ready to be inspected. We wanted to get it inspected before we sold it, but fate just isn’t going to happen for us. We have to move this ASAP so all reasonable offers considered. The car is located in York Springs, PA 17372 (along route 94). Give me a call to check it out - my name is Jamen and I can be reached at 717-580-4200 (between 8 am and 9 pm). If you want more pics, I have about 50 of them I can send if you email me. We do have a clear PA title in hand - Cash talks. On May-05-10 at 05:08:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Car is being sold ‘AS IS” with no guarantee either expressed or implied. No refunds will be made available for any reason. We are attempting to represent this vehicle to the best of our abilities, but we are not experts and do not attempt to represent ourselves as such - if you like Oldsmobile’s, it is likely you know more about this car than we do. Please come and inspect this vehicle prior to bidding so nobody has their time wasted. I hate to be a hard@ss, but we need to move this vehicle to someone who wants it and don’t need the hassle of someone who is trying to play games. On May-10-10 at 09:45:08 PDT, seller added the following information: I am getting a lot of questions about if this is a true Hurst/Olds or a clone of one. If you are in doubt that this is exactly what you are looking for - PLEASE DO NOT BID. Neither of us needs the hassle. I have been getting a lot of emails from people saying both that this IS and IS NOT real. I have been trying to post those questions when they come in (not duplicating questions). The two schools of thought are: #1 - The VIN does not match what they know to be a true Hurst/Olds or, #2 - Components such as the cowl tag saying it is a W-40, posi rear with airshocks, switch under the pedal, shifters (that are no longer there), etc. make this an authentic Hurst/Olds. I do not know either way, which is why I advertize this as a Cutlass with Hurst trim - not a Hurst/Olds. I will let you make up your mind. I have a zip file containing 34 pictures. If you send me your email address I will send them from my Hotmail account (I can’t attach them from eBay). I will let you know through eBay that these pictures are on their way. Check your junk folder if you don’t receive them shortly after I notify you. Note that I had to shrink all of these pictures to make them fit into the email - I do have larger/more clear copies of these files that I can send if you tell me which one you are interested in. Thanks for looking! On May-10-10 at 11:36:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Update on the air conditioning - I double checked over the weekend and I did not see the 134a sticker - so I am probably wrong about my earlier statement. It still doesn't have a belt so I can't tell you if it works.
