Vehicle Detail
1970 Ford F-250 camper special 360 C-6 auto. Daily driver but needs rear main seal. Details: I purchased this truck to fix-up. The previous owner had it painted, did some interior work, and new tires. I think the front tires should be changed, (they drive like stones and they both are leaking somewhere around the bead, and need air every couple weeks). After I purchased I had a new exhaust installed from manifolds back, with crossover. Had the steering rag joint replaced and brakes looked over, my mechanic replaced a leaking master cylinder. Steering is pretty decent except the front tires on there still make it a harsh ride. Transmission works well, I had that serviced too. I replaced the heater core (works great) but it still needs a heater core valve (the valve keeps water from flowing through the core). Both fuel tanks work but the gauge is not reading properly. Most of the gauges are not accurate and need adjusting. Needs a few interior details, rear window latch, driver window crank knob. It had an add-on AC sometime in the past but most of those components are long gone. Locking cargo box included. Main issues: The rear main seal and possibly trans seal need replacing. I replaced the carburetor and have had no luck adjusting the choke. Someone with greater skills than I needs to tune the carb. Sometimes the engine idles beautifully, sometimes it shakes at idle and sometimes it runs at high idle. I just can’t figure it out. If the idle issue and the leaking oil were fixed the truck would be much nicer. It is registered and insured and currently drives daily around the city and freeway.Would like to sell to someone who will continue restoring the truck, I have too many projects and don’t want to see this one end up in the backyard with weeds growing around it. No reserve... Please email with any questionsOn May-04-10 at 21:30:04 PDT, seller added the following information: I've been getting a lot of questions about what this truck needs to be finished... In a nutshell: It needs mechanical details particularly on the engine. The body and interior are mostly finished, so this would be a great project for someone with tools & mechanical skills, who doesn't want to do bodywork. All the lights & turn signals work. Only the horn does not work, I have not looked at it, it could be something simple. I am not proficient in tuning a car or in electrical work. Ford instrument cluster gauges are tunable (adjustable), the gauges work but are not tuned properly, I have not touched them. My plan was to pull the engine and trans to clean and detail them (as well as the engine compartment) and put them back in. Unfortunately most of my tools were recently stolen.. I was an engine builder/machinist for over 10 years, so you can imagine the loss of the tools. Since then I have had my mechanic do some work and I have just been driving it the way it is. After I purchased, I immediately noticed loose steering, my mechanic adjusted the steering box, replaced the rag joint, he looked for loose or worn parts and replaced a tie rod. Then I replaced the radius arm bushings and shocks, I think the old shocks worked better than the new ones. I like absolutely perfect steering.. It is not perfect, but darn close. I am certain good front tires and an alignment will help get it to perfection. Lastly, as I mentioned below.. the brakes are operating beautifully.. they stop hard, fast, powerful and straight, no turning to the left or right.., just good brakes! Hope this helps answer your questions.
