Vehicle Detail

In this auction, you're looking at a very clean, low mileage example of a Jaguar XJ6. This vehicle is equipped with a very smooth 3.6 litre inline 6 cylinder engine and a 4 speed automatic transmission. I purchased this vehicle from a dealership on the west coast in February 2009 and driven it approximately 15,000 miles since. Because it has never seen snow before this year, you'll be hard pressed to find any rust on this car; the frame and body are rust free and very solid. This Jaguar very easily became my daily driver and has made several trips through the green mountains to upstate New York. Despite it's age, I would not hesitate to take it on a trip at any time. I've worked to keep all necessary maintenance and repairs up to date so please let that help you in your decision to bid or purchase this vehicle. This XJ6 just 3 days ago passed New Hampshire state inspection with only needing replacement of 2 side marker light bulbs. This is a 21 year old car and is not perfect. It is being sold AS IS with not warranty written or implied. I will do my best to specify completely both the good and the bad. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask and I will be more than happy to answer them as soon as possible. First, the good. Both the engine and transmission in this XJ6 work perfectly. The inline engine is very quiet and smooth and the transmission shifts through all gears very smoothly. In October '09, I had the transmission flushed and otherwise have only needed to perform regular oil changes. Shortly after taking delivery, I had all 4 tires replaced. In the photos, you'll see that the tires are very close to new. Through the winter, studded snow tires were used, so these tires have very low mileage on them. At the same time as the tires, I replaced many components in the front end. This includes new upper and lower ball joints on both sides, new tie rod ends on both sides, new bushings throughout, and also new front brake rotors and pads. As a result, this car is very quiet and smooth driving down the road. A fresh alignment was performed 2 weeks ago when I put the summer tires back on. The climate control units on these Jaguars are known to burn out after a period of time. In December '09, I had both of the A/C switches that cause this problem replaced at the local Jaguar dealership. At the same time, the upper radiator coolant line as well as a main hydraulic mineral fluid line for the suspension were replaced. These XJ6's have a high pressure hydraulic system that operates both the 4 wheel disc brakes as well as the self leveling rear suspension. I have replaced the old brake accumulator (a ball that holds approximately 1500 pounds of pressure) with another lightly used accumulator. The brakes work with great pressure and the suspension levels the car perfectly when the trunk is loaded. In January '10, I had the plug wires as well as the battery replaced. The interior on this car is near flawless. All the leather is clean and without tears. Aside from light wear on the driver's seat, all other seats look almost new. The carpet throughout is without stain and the dash is crack free. All burl wood is in great, uncracked condition. There is only one flaw with the interior. In the rear, the headliner has begun to sag slightly. This is something that all of these Jaguars do after 15-20 years. I have this remedied temporarily with 2 pushpins. You may want to have a professional replace the headliner. This car was one of the first vehicles on the market to offer keyless entry. All power options on this car including the windows, locks, mirrors, seats and sunroof work well. I've also read that in some of the XJ6's, the door handles will stop working. On this car, all four doors open from inside and out without any problem. In the pictures, you'll see that the remote is present and it works! One last thing; when I first purchased this vehicle, I was told that it was going to need a new starter as the current one would engage for too long about every other start. So I ordered a remanufactured starter for it. After I did this, the starter stopped doing this and has worked great for over a year now. This second starter will be included with the vehicle, as will an extra set of rear brake pads (these pads have sensors that tell the car when they're getting low). Next, the not so good. As I said earlier, this car is not perfect. The paint on the trunk lid and the roof has some fading present. The paint is in solid condition, but the clear coat has long since gone. Aside from this, all body panels and paint are in great condition. The optional chrome wheels are not in great condition. They look good from a distance, but up close, one can see that the surface is cracked and broken. If I were keeping this vehicle, I would definitely invest in 4 replacements. There is only one thing on this vehicle that has bothered me. The gauges feature an electronic message center on the right side that will provide warning if there are any problems that need to be addressed. After only 2 years, Jaguar wisely deleted this feature and replaced it with conventional gauges. Since the day I took possession of this XJ6, this board has continuously flashed various warnings. These include "low brake pad", "low power fluid" (hydraulic mineral oil), "low windshield washer fluid" and occasionally "ABS failure". I have had all of these warnings checked at the Jaguar dealership and this is what I've been told. For the low brake pad, the rear passenger side brake pad has a broken wire. It's a very easy fix, but for some reason I just decided to wait. The pads have plenty of depth in them. The low power fluid warning is due a faulty sensor inside the tank. The level of fluid is fine and the system works fine; the sensor simply needs to be replaced. The low windshield washer fluid warning has 2 parts to it. The warning itself is also due to a faulty sensor as the tank will hold plenty of fluid. However, there is a small leak at the neck of the bottle, so if it's filled to the top, about 1/8th of the fluid will leak out. As I said, the tank will hold plenty of fluid to not have to worry about it, but there is a small leak at the top of the tank. The ABS failure light is also due to an unspecified sensor somewhere in the system. The warning does not come on very often at all, but sometimes it will flash this. I drove the car through the winter and can personally attest to the fact that the ABS brakes, which were cutting edge technology in 1989, do work as they were intended to. To go a little further on this topic, I drove this car in 4 different snow storms and with snow tires, it handles very well. I was told by others that Jaguars are not good at all in the snow, but after a little time behind the wheel I never felt unsure of its driving ability. This is a lot of information, but as I said, I want to be as informative as possible. Please send me any questions you may have. Fact of the matter is that I would not be selling this vehicle if I simply didn't need to downsize. We have 3 vehicles and are only allowed 2 in our condo parking lot. This car often catches peoples' eyes and I've received complements from many, many people. Just driving the car through the car wash before taking these photos, the attendant who was drying it motioned for me to roll the window down. When I did, he complimented the car by saying "Sweet Jag!"
