Vehicle Detail
1963 Studebaker Lark Custom 259 cu. in. V8, Automatic, Heater, Radio Serial # 63V4384 96xxx miles I bought this nice Lark from the widow of the original owner. When I bought it the car had been sitting in the garage untouched for 10 years. The tires were flat but took air. I did not try to start it, I towed it home where I changed the oil, hooked up an alternate fuel source and tried to start the car. It fired right up and sounded like a Studebaker after installing new points and condenser. I then replaced the brake hoses, brake shoes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and installed silicone brake fluid. Next I replaced all cooling hoses, antifreeze, belts and water pump (it looked good but figured it would not last long after sitting for 10 years). I started it and it once again purred like a Studebaker V8 should. I next pulled the gas tank and cleaned it, checked all other fluid levels, replaced things like gas line hoses etc. Now it was ready to test drive. After driving it around the neighborhood, I took it to the tire store for four new tires. This car was now ready to shake, rattle and roll ! This car was owned and babied by the original owner. He kept this in his one car garage, was selective when he drove it, and always had another couple drivers around to drive in bad weather. He had the car repainted at some point in time and if I remember correctly he had the front fenders replaced with NOS ones. I am not sure when it was repainted but I would guess in the early 1980’s. He proudly enjoyed taking this car to many local car shows over the years. While this car shows very well at local car shows and displays very well, it is not a show car. This car has not changed much in the past 25 years. As you can see in the pictures, the dash is in extremely terrific condition and looks like it did when it was new. The condition of the dash is a good indication of how well the car was taken care of. The original seats are in overall good condition without tears. There is a spot smaller than a dollar bill on the side of the top rear seat at the very bottom where mice chewed a hole in the vinyl. It could easily be repaired if desired. This is the original 1963 upholstery. I replaced the carpets around 5 years ago as they were just dry rotted from age. The chrome and paint on the dash are in wonderful condition. The headliner is good but has some small water stains around the rear window and showing its age around those spots. The roof area of the headliner looks almost new. The windlace is original and has some wear in places but is still presentable. The chestnut color of the interior complements the Rose Mist exterior. The sunvisors are also in very nice condition. The dash has a vanity mirror in the glove box which is a unique Studebaker feature. The exterior is the original Studebaker color called Rose Mist. My 4 year old granddaughter calls this “grandpa’s pink car”. It is one classy rich unique color which tends to really grow on you. The chrome and trim are all original and as you can see it is shiny and nice looking. Each of the rear fenders has a small spot about the size of a pencil in it which could be rust spots but as they have not increased in size I am not sure. There are a few (not very many) chips in the paint but overall this paint appears to be still in excellent condition. I do not see any dents in this body. This car was supposedly never wrecked and from everything I can see I believe that to be 100% true This car has been recently driven to the Studebaker National Meets in both Omaha, Nebraska (1000 miles round trip) and Lancaster, Pa. (1800 miles round trip) without incident. I would not hesitate to drive this car to any location within the United States. The gas mileage on these trips was in the 22-24 mph range. And to think that Studebaker could get that kind of mileage and the auto makers today with V8 engines have difficulty matching that. The trunk mat has been replaced. There is no rust out in the trunk floor. Take a look at the trunk pictures. The frame etc is also solid. The glass is all good, this is a small crack in one corner of the windshield which is really not very noticeable. I am trying to be picky with this car as I do not want you to be surprised or disappointed. I really do not want to sell this car but I just have too many and not enough storage space. This car is presently stored in a friend’s garage. > The body is very straight. The re-paint was done by a professional body shop and is smooth and sharp. It is the typical Studebaker and drips oil. The engine starts right up and sounds like a Studebaker should, no unusual noises. The transmission does not appear to have any issues. The battery is nearly new. The wiring & harness are in excellent shape . All the guages, lights switches etc. work just as they should. I really am not aware of anything wrong with the mechanics of this car. After it sits for a month or so, I hook up the battery and she fires right up . Here is another shot of the front seat, dash and steering wheel, sure looks nice to me. Look at the original never repainted cowl or firewall in the engine shots below. The engine compartment, while not show quality, is quite presentable for local shows etc. As you can see in the following pictures the door panels are in real nice shape See the original factory sticker on the right door jamb in the picture below. Here is what NADA, the old car value bible, values the car at: NADA VALUE > The results show the following: Original MSRP: $2,420 -------Low Retail is $3,850--------Average Retail $7,700--------High Retail $12,750 You are buying this car as is.
