Vehicle Detail
This is a 1996 Subaru Legacy L Wagon, Green, with manual transmission, AWD, ABS, power windows/locks, CD player, cassette deck, it's always been a non-smoker's car, and it currently has 193,300 miles on it. The main thing the car needs is a new clutch: the current clutch has worn completely out, and will no longer engage, so it will need a new clutch. Other than that, there are a few minor problems, which you may or may not want to take care of depending on your intended use: Slow leak in the rear left tire (pictured), Could probably use new brake pads (had 6-7mm left 5,000 miles ago), Apparently the knock sensor circuit is malfunctioning (has caused the check engine light to come on a couple times--mechanic found problem was with the sensor) Some rust on the roof (pictured), Cracked windshield Also, at last service the mechanic noted a rattle from the exhaust heat shield. Cruise control doesn't work (haven't investigated the cause because it didn't matter much to me; for all I know it could be something as simple as a fuse) Also there are a few scuffs on the exterior (including a white paint mark on right front bumper) I've had it for about 6 years--3 in Colorado and 3 in Tennessee--with no breakdowns or major problems (until this clutch issue). The car has been great to me, and it's especially great in the snow--I always loved driving through a big snowstorm with no problems while SUV drivers are all around spinning their wheels and sliding off the roads. The reason I’m moving on is because I'm going to have a significantly longer commute next year, so I'm moving into a hybrid to save on gas and be kinder to the environment. Mileage on the Subaru has been fairly good--I've averaged about 23-25mpg in the city and 26-28mpg on the highway. If you have mechanical ability, this could be a great car for you to buy and fix (and then either sell or use). Would also make a great father-son (or mother-daughter, or any other combination) project--buy it, fix it, and let the kid drive it (e.g. off to college, especially for a skier/snowboarder). Even if you have to take it to the mechanic to get some of the work done, it's a good investment because this is a great car, especially for snowier climes. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or if you want to arrange an independent inspection. On Apr-24-10 at 09:22:23 PDT, seller added the following information: ** Further notes: The check engine light has come back on--as mentioned above, this has happened before and the mechanic has found a problem with the knock sensor circuit, which presumably still exists, but I haven't checked the codes on it this time. The windshield now has two cracks, top to bottom, one on the driver's side and one on the passenger's side. Also, at the same time I replaced the timing belt (178,838 miles, see Q&A below--included water pump, oil seals, tensioners, drive belts & thermostat), I put in a new battery (Interstate MT-35).
