Vehicle Detail

OWNER IS MAKING LAST RELIST. RESERVE IS SET AT GREAT PRICE FOR VOLVO LOVERS!!! Owner is giving it one last go before giving the car away to a relative to have and finish! Great project car. 1963 544 Volvo with B18 engine. Registration renewed. The owner has bought parts from me in the past and asked me to put it on Ebay. Owner has $8,000 invested! The engine starts and idles fine. The carbs have rebuilt stickers on them. Pics show engine without air filters installed, they are included. The engine runs bad after the throttle is opened a bit. I checked the carbs, synced them with a flow meter and looked to make sure the jets had a good spray coming out. Then I pulled the plugs (wrong plugs, wouldn't you know! Installed a set of Bosch Supers from my stuff) and checked compression. Cylinders ranged from 135-170 pounds. I found no odd noises to suggest mechanical problems. Plug wires are late model silicon and look fairly new. After checking the ignition settings it appears to be a carb problem only. One carb has different jet than the other so one causes the motor to run like crap when raised off idle. Transmission, clutch and drive train are fine. It must have been a garaged car in it's early life because it has very little body rust (see pics). The only rust hole is dead center in the trunk well. There is some rusting near the wheel well but nothing going all the way through. All solid metal in the floor panels. Unfortunately, the carpets are glued down so I had to inspect the flooring from under the car, using a rubber mallet to test for metal strength. There is no bondo or repair to the sheet metal anywhere that I can find. Found a weird patch on bottom of driver's-side tail light housing (there is a good housing included in an extra parts box). Under the fenders, rockers, door bottoms all seems to be rust-free and un-repaired. Passenger-side rocker panel is dented (see pics). It looks as if someone tried a fork lift or similar thing to lift it. Jack pad is missing from same side. The passenger side front fender has been replaced with a 444 fender (slightly different turnsignal light location, almost unnoticable). The tires are near new Pirelli P135/60/R15s on spoked wheels. The interior is all new stuff. The headliner is cloth and door panels and seats are vinyl. Carpet is new also. The paint looks nice but has some chips in various spots. There is some surface rust on the chrome (see pics). The hood hinge is off the pin on the driver's side which has caused chipping on the nose when opened. The trunk is a "two-hand" operation to close (worn ratchet piece) so that explains how someone bent the hinge on the ratchet side. I managed to bend it back close to normal with just my hands and but it needs more tweaking to get it to fit right. Brakes work good and haven't shown any signs of leaks since the car has been here. The car is definitely a great piece to finish and drive. None of the Volvos I've ever owned or worked on were this solid in the body. It has a lot of items needing attention but none seem to point to bad mechanical or body rot. Here are some of the fusses and fixits: Driver's door won't open from outside, probably busted rivet to linkage. Ignition key needs fussing to get it to turn, improving with use! Rear bumper bent, over-ride bar missing Heater core bypassed and blower missing Brake reservoir cracked at half-way point. Not too much to get it ready to drive every day and fix it up piece by piece. BONUS! BONUS! BONUS! BONUS! The car's owner came over with two important items. The first is that the gas tank was taken out and cleaned, inspected and sealed! This was done a while back. That eliminates one of the biggest problems of 544s that are not driven! Item number two. Owner also brought over a box with new trunk hardboard panels and new kick panels for the interior. Never installed! If you've looked these items up before or have bought them, you know "they ain't cheap"! Ask as many questions as you need to feel sure about what you are bidding on. This is as accurate a description as I can make. There are things you may want to know I haven't mentioned. ASK, ASK, ASK! Buyer must deposit $500.00 using PAYPAL within 48 hours of winning the auction with the remainder to be paid within 7 business days. The vehicle must be picked up within 14 days of the winning bid unless the winner has a written agreement from me for a longer wait time. Late pickup will result in storage charges at the legal rate for California per day and the car held until said charges are paid. Sorry I have to add this but I need my driveway! This vehicle is for sale locally so I reserve the right to withdraw the car from auction at any time prior to the end time of the bidding. GOOD LUCK
