Vehicle Detail
1966 Triumph TR4A IRS Restored, numbers matching, IRS (Independent Rear Suspension), Triumph Racing Green over tan, West Coast car until recently, stored winters/rain, 8,000 miles since restoration. This particular TR4A was built on March 4, 1966 and subsequently shipped out on April 6 on the freighter “Pasedena” bound for the Standard Triumph Motor Company, Inc. of San Francisco, CA. It was a US delivery car, optioned with a heater, independent rear suspension, and a tonneau cover. As stated by the BMI Heritage Trust Certificate in hand. This TR4A spent its life in the dry California climate until 1991. It was then when a gentleman from Oregon—who had owned a similar, green TR4A new—found the solid and rust-free TR4, bought it, and brought it home as a project. A 6-year, exhaustive frame-off restoration was then performed. Every nut and bolt was disassembled. Every mechanical component was sent out to be restored and where it wasn’t possible to restore, a proper replacement was found. The frame and body were dipped before being refinished in their original colors. The interior was replaced with new tan leather and the dash received a new mahogany insert. A new top was fitted, the instrument gauges rebuilt, a new wiring harness installed, new brake lines, a stainless exhaust, and any other wear components were all replaced as well. In short, at the end of this 6-year journey the final result is nothing short of stunning. The TR4 then served the following few years as a garage queen, only coming out for the occasional nice weather drive to local club events or the seasonal color tours. It was shown at the ABFM (All British Field Meet) in Bellevue, WA upon completion and once noticed there, was featured in an enthusiast magazine in Japan. In 2006 it was sold to its current owner in Michigan who has maintained the TR4 to very high standards of serviceability and finish, always paying attending to the smallest details or needs that require attention (including a major service just completed this month). It was only driven on dry summer days. The finish on the car is fantastic; there are no blemishes of note in the paint and no noticeable interior wear. It has covered approximately 8,000 miles since the restoration and it is apparent that great care was taken every time the car was driven. The tires are period correct Vredesteins and have many miles of tread life left. It is the perfect Triumph to show, drive, or both and is one of the finest TR4A models around.
