Offered is a 1999 Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor. The photos tell the story — it is a good looking car with shiny aged paint, clean interior, good tires and wheels. The engine runs fine and the five-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly. The A/C is cold and all power windows work. Best of all, the odometer is showing just under 60,000 miles, so it should reward a thoughtful owner with many more miles. I’ve been using it as a daily driver. Like any other twenty year old car, it has its share of problems. One in particular is driving me crazy. Several times a week, when I turn the ignition key to start it, I can hear a click but nothing else happens. If I reset the key and attempt to start it again, it will engage the starter and start easily. It’s an intermittent problem and only happens occasionally (several times a week). It always has started when I make a second attempt. No one has been able to diagnose the problem, not even the local dealer. There’s a lot of information in the user groups and on youtube, but I haven’t the time to deal with it. Someone with more skills than myself needs to go through the ignition side and figure out what is happening. The acceleration skid control (ASR) light is on indicating an issue in that system. That said the car brakes firmly and evenly. The trunk opens with the key, but the electronic opening system in not working. Title in hand and just needs a caring owner.
