Vehicle Detail
I got this 1967 Sunbeam Alpine when I purchased a local garage. The car was included in the sale. The previous owner passed away, but before he got sick, he was working on restoring this Alpine. I'm selling it because I have too many projects, and don't need to take on another one! Overall this is a good car with good bones which needs someone to finish it up. Mostly the interior needs to be done, the exterior brightwork, and some fine-tuning and final adjustments. The previous owner meticulously rebuilt the engine, and hopped it up with a hot cam and a few other touches. It starts and runs, although a little rough. I think a valve is a little sticky, there's a minor exhaust leak, and the carbs need to be sunchronized. But it growls like it wants to get out on the open road and cruise. I havent had it in second gear, but it does move under its won power in first and reverse, and I see no reason why all the gears wouldn't work fine. The mechanicals have also been rebuilt - wheel bearings, brakes, suspension. He had it painted by a local man who taught autobody at a tech school nearby. The color is a beautiful blue that sparkles in the sunlight. Original color is carousel red. The repaint is a pretty old job - he worked on this car for a couple of decades. It has a few chips and scratches. A good buffing and a few touchups shoul bring the luster back. It comes with two sets of top bows, a new canvas top in the box, and a fiberglass hardtop. The hardtop needs a new headliner and new plexiglass, but it's in good shape otherwise. The biggest issue with the car is in the floorpans and trunk, and it might just be because I'm a perfectionist. It's probably ok as a driver, but I would redo it if I kept it. To be more specific, I can see evidence of some rust-through in the original floorpans. Instead of cutting out the floorpans, fabricating new ones and welding them in properly, he covered them with new sheetmetal, and welded those in over top/underneath. I see no evidence of any rust repair in any of the structural areas (crossmembers, sills, etc) - those areas look good and solid. It's just in sheetmetal like the floorpans etc. You can decide on this on your own, like I said, I think with some undercoating, seamsealer and carpets, it would work great as a driver. Enough of the bad, the best part of this is the spare parts. I have buckets and buckets of spare parts. As best I can tell, the previous owner had at least 4 parts cars which he stripped completely. I've got 5 doors, a complete front suspension, a spare engine, multiple sets of seats, dashboards, and literally two dozen storage bins full of smaller parts - engine, interior, brightwork, bumpers, headlight rings, etc. There are so many spare parts that I'm not even entirely sure what's there, but I'd say it's pretty safe to assume you have 99.9% of that parts you need to finish the car. It will run and you should be able to drive it up on a trailer. The spare parts will probably fill a few pickup truck loads. I will not hang onto the spare parts. If you don't want them, they will go to auto salvage. I have lots more pictures on google drive. Contact me and I'll send you an invite to view them. I will make the car available to anyone for viewing at any time during the auction Mon-Sun 8-8. The mileage I put in the eBay field is not accurate, but it's also not really relevant on a car that's half way through a restoration. New York does not issue titles for cars older than 1973, so I have a transferable registration signed by a previous owner. It's clear and you should not have any problems at the DMV. This is a no reserve auction, so the high bidder will win the auction. I ask that you pick it up within 2 weeks of the end of the sale. I prefer cash, paypal, or cashiers' check. I will take a personal check but it must clear the bank before you pick up the car. If you do not have positive feedback, contact me before bidding. Thank you! I have bought and sold a handful of cars on eBay, but I'm not a dealer. I'm just another car buff. I want to be brutally honest with this listing, because I have been surprised before by dishonest sellers. Feel free to ask questions! On Sep-26-18 at 16:10:01 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had a few questions and wanted to provide some clarification. THE TOP - someone pointed out to me that the top is NOT fiberglass, but steel. I don’t know why I missed that, but I checked and indeed it is steel. This is the factory steel hardtop that comes with the car. PAINTWORK - another question was around the paintwork. In one of the pictures, the drivers door appears a little lighter than the surrounding panels. This is just a reflection. The paintwork is very even. The only issues I see with the paintwork are one chip on the left rear quarter, some fine scratches and dull spots that will buff out, and the top is a lighter shade than the body. SHIPPING - I spoke to a friend of mine who has hauled a few cars for me in the past, and if you need some help with shipping, I can put you in touch. He’s honest, conscientious, and priced very fairly. LOOKING AT THE CAR - for those of you who wanted to come take a look, I’m available this weekend parts of Saturday and all day Sunday to show the car (as well as most weekdays, as I only live and work 5 miles from where I store the car)
