Vehicle Detail
2001 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 For sale is a 2001 Porsche Carrera 2 (996 model). I purchased the car used from a dealer in Los Angeles in in late 2010. For the past two years, the car has been driven very rarely (as I have another vehicle). The color is dark metallic blue, Porsche code IA8CE. The engine and transmission codes are: M9604-661, 09600-10. It’s been an absolutely wonderful car to own, but I now need to sell it (moving back to Canada). It’s generally in very good shape, but there are a few issues that the buyer should be aware of (detailed below). With a bit of TLC, it could be a great street car or track car. I’m an enthusiast (love the Porsche brand), and so I’m providing all the details that I have, with the hope that someone with knowledge of the 996 models will take the time to make her perfect again. The car has been regularly serviced; I just completed an oil change (Castrol synthetic 5W-40) 500 miles ago. The car has a new battery, installed in May, 2018. Please read all of the auction details below. Factory options: The interior is gray on gray (code L3). The car has the following factory options installed: XSC Porsche crest embossed in headrest265 Automatic anti-dazzle interior mirror and rain sensor266Automatic anti-dazzle door mirrors288Headlamp washer424CD compartment4363-spoke steering wheel4378-way electrical seat, left4388-way electrical seat, right490Basic sound system (Harmann analog)537Seat memory, left601Litronic (xenon) headlamps (from the factory!)659Board computer696CD-radio Becker Porsche CDR-220936Leather rear seats981Leather dashboard and door panels983Leather front seats Aftermarket additions: - Short shift kit (installed before I purchased). - K&N fuel injection performance kit (installed before I purchased). - Aftermarket dark tint of side and rear windows (professionally installed, done before I purchased). - 19” Victor Equipment Innsbruck silver machined-face rims with Continental DWS tires (front: 235-35-19, rear: 275-30-19). The tires have less that 2,500 miles on them and are in excellent shape. There is just the slightest bit of curb rash on the right front and rear rims (trivial to buff out at a shop, I just haven’t done it). Tires and rims cost more than $2,700 US total. Known issues: - The car had a minor ding in the right front fender, in front of the gas filler flap. This was fixed by Dick’s Auto Body in Sommerville (specialists in high-end vehicles). Although the damage was very minor, I asked to have a new right front fender installed from the factory (no bondo or sanding for me). - Importantly, the engine has a vacuum leak. It’s not terrible, but it should be fixed. The idle is slightly high, and it’s a bit of a hard start after a gasoline fill up. It may be the vent valve solenoid - I’m uncertain and Porsche wanted more than $500 just to start to diagnose (I’d buy a smoke machine and do it myself, but I don’t have the time). - The plastic spark plug tubes are leaking just slightly. This is extremely common on early model 996s, and is an easy fix (again, just a question of time). I have never had an issue with oil (the car does not drip - the plug tubes are just damp). - When I purchased the vehicle, the plastic under trays were missed (due to an underbody scrape by a previous owner). I did not replace the trays. You may wish to do so. - The gas tank flap release solenoid is stuck and needs to be replaced. No issues filling the car, it’s just that the flap doesn’t lock. - There is a minor paint scuff on the rear bumper, driver’s side. The bumper itself is not damaged. - There is a minor dent in the rear decklid (thanks to a ‘touch’ from a truck two weeks ago, argh). Easy fix. - The standard Porsche toolkit is missing. - The sunroof button works, but is a bit sticky. - The cup holder in the dash (which I hate) is broken. - The tuning knob on the factory radio is finicky. She’s a wonderful car and should go to a good home! I’ve identified all known issues above, but please note that the car is sold as is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Please message me with any questions. A $1,000 deposit is required within 24 hours (serious buyers only - I'm looking for a hobbyist or pro who is willing to fix up the vehicle). Note that the vehicle is stored in Massachusetts, but I am out of the country a present - there may be a delay of up to one week before I can transfer the car to you. Thanks for looking and happy bidding! On Sep-11-18 at 07:40:54 PDT, seller added the following information: To be clear - the car is located and registered in Massachusetts, USA. It has not been fitted for import into Canada (I’m not able to change the listing location). You will need to pick the vehicle up or have it shipped from MA.
