Up for reluctant sale is my superb 1968 BMW R 60/2 motorcycle. The sad truth is that I don't ride it enough any more.This is a 3 matching number bike. I bought the bike in 2000 in original, but shabby condition. Running (just), in desperate need of TLC.My original aim was to tidy it up, give it a good tune up, and use it as a daily run-about. I was convinced by acquaintances that it deserved more than that.I contacted Chris Betcheman of Barrington Motor Works in New Hampshire. He is the authority on BMW restoration. I told him I wanted a practical rebuild, not an n'th degree restoration.However, this is what ended up done:Complete strip to bare frame. Frame checked for alignment, and powder coated.Engine completely stripped to clean oil slingers, and rebuilt with all new bearings and seals.New piston rings. Bores are still at nominal.Cylinder heads reworked with new valve seats, new springs, and guides.Transmission stripped, checked, and rebuilt with all new bearings and seals. new selector fork(s) installed.New clutch.Final drive stripped, and rebuilt with all new bearings and seals.All sheet metal parts repainted, and hand lined as appropriate. These parts are original to the bike.All head, fork, swing arm bearings replaced, with new seals as applicable.New Euro handlebar, and new Pagusa individual seats. (the bike originally came with a dual seat, but the pan was rusted through, so I went with the single seats, because I think they are more in keeping with the character of the bike).New wiring, front to back, with headlight switch module replaced. New battery (6 volt). I will include a 6 volt battery tender with the bike.Original tool roll retained, and come with the bike.New tires/tubes.All rubber parts replaced.I have a file with records of all work performed, that will come with the bike. This includes the receipt for when I bought it, and the previous title (from NJ). with some photographs of the "before" condition.I have more than $14000.00 into this project. I have a clear California title, and I did acquire an age appropriate licence plate that will be included in the sale. It would take very little work to turn this bike into show quality. Mechanically, this bike is like new. Paint is unmarked. Please ask any, and all questions, and I will respond same day. I can provide additional photographs of any specific detail if requested. Shipping/transportation of this bike will be the sole responsibility of the buyer, but I will assist in any way I can to expedite this.
