Vehicle Detail
Up for grabs here is a wonderful 2005 BMW X3 that has been in my family since new (one owner - my mother - up until Oct. 2017). This X3 is in amazing condition for its age and runs perfectly … it’s just a wonderfully reliable, fast, and solid German vehicle that will serve its new owners well for many years to come ... without all of the computerized over-engineering and self-driving "features" of a newer model. It's a whole lot of car for the money! This fine BMW is immaculate and in flat-out amazing condition for a vehicle approaching 15 years old … if you're looking for a classic, old-school Bimmer this may be the one for you. You'll have to search long and far to find one as nice! I apologize in advance for the wordiness, but there's a lot to say about this one so grab a cup of coffee and read on! When you're ready, please also review the more than 175 additional photos here: LINK TO ADDITIONAL PHOTOS Options and extras include: • Silver Gray Metallic paint • Black leather interior • 3.0 liter DOHC 24-valve inline 6 cylinder engine • xDrive all wheel drive system • Panorama moonroof • Cold weather package • Premium package • Heated steering wheel • … and probably a bunch of other stuff I’m forgetting! HISTORY This car was purchased brand new from BMW of Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. We even still have the original window sticker. It has had a pretty enviable life, serving as a summer/weekend car for my mother at her vacation home up until she bought a new car in 2017 and I purchased the car from her. It has always been garaged and has been very well maintained. (A folder of receipts will come with the car.) It has pretty much never been exposed to any of the things that are detrimental to keeping a car in tip-top condition … no smoking, no kids, no pets, no commuting. My only reason for selling is that we currently have three other vehicles, limited garage space, and I refuse to keep this car outside! While she's like a member of the family and we're pretty sentimental about her (lots of great memories!), the old girl is just not getting used enough to justify keeping her. MECHANICAL Mechanically, this BMW is in excellent shape and can be driven anywhere. (I'm not just speaking hypothetically here - I drove it from Texas to Connecticut and back last summer without any problems.) The car is driven frequently and has always been 100% reliable. Mileage is currently around 165,550 but you’d never know it! The bulletproof M54 engine is, in my opinion, one of the best engines BMW has ever produced. The engine is smooth, powerful, whisper-quiet and idles well. It has no leaks, produces no smoke whatsoever, and performs beautifully - it’s a very peppy car and cruises happily and quietly at 80 mph. No rattles, squeaks, noises, etc. … just quiet and comfortable. The transmission shifts crisply and the car handles wonderfully - very tight and solid in all respects. It’s a very fun car to drive! Air conditioning was serviced last year (received a new compressor and receiver/dryer at that time at a cost of nearly $2000) and is ice-cold (obligatory here in Texas!) The cruise control works as it should, too (through I haven't often used it) and all power locks and windows are working as they should … never had any problems! The moonroof works just fine, too. The engine compartment is clean and shows original components throughout. Please note that I haven't detailed the engine or done anything to the car beyond a wash and a vacuum … this is just how it looks! And as nice as the photos are, I think it looks even better in person. A true detail job would make it look absolutely fantastic I'm sure. INTERIOR For a car of this age, the interior is just plain amazing. It’s exceptionally clean throughout - almost like new! The interior is definitely one of this car’s strong points. It is clean, comfortable, and in excellent condition without any odors, dirt, or other unpleasantness. The black leather seats have no rips or tears anywhere, and are still firm and exceptionally comfortable. No staining on the carpets, and they’ve been well protected by BMW all-weather mats. Not to sound weird, but this is one of the best smelling cars I’ve ever owned, too … it smells of rich German leather. :-) BODY/PAINT The exterior of the car is exceptionally clean and its original Silver Gray Metallic paint still gleams - it looks absolutely great. There are no dents or problems to mention, only a few scratches here and there from age and use, but FAR less than one would expect. For its age, the paint is in amazingly good condition as the photos attest. If you're reading this, chances are you know how hard it is to find a BMW of this vintage that hasn't been run into the ground. They just don't come around that often. It's not perfect by any means, but it's also as nice a BMW of this age as I've EVER seen. I believe its new owner will be very, very happy with it … I've been on ebay for close to twenty years and have sold several cars and vintage motorcycles and have never had an unhappy buyer yet! Please review the photos closely, ask any and all questions and I'll do my best to answer promptly and honestly. Serious inquiries can reach me by phone at 512-484-3186 between 9am-5pm CST. LINK TO ADDITIONAL PHOTOS On Jun-06-18 at 07:16:23 PDT, seller added the following information: **UPDATE 06/06** In response to a few questions, I've taken some additional photos of what I feel is the worst of the wear and tear to the BMW. The photos have been added to the Flickr set here: ADDITIONAL PHOTOS. (Scroll down to the end of the set to see the last 10 numbered pics.) Please review them carefully. I want the new owner to be 100% happy with the car. If anything, I think these closeups make these areas look much worse than they really are … they're essentially just light wear and tear for a nearly 15 year old vehicle. :-) If anyone who has bid would like to retract their bid or have me cancel it due to these photos, please just let me know - not a problem at all! Here’s what the pics show (numbers correspond to numbers on the photos): 1: Cracking to driver’s side door pull wood trim (this was shown in existing pictures, but this shows it a little more up close). 2-3: Two tiny chips in front windshield, one just under 1 cm, one about .5 cm. Neither are threatening to spread, but they’re there! 4-5: Two tiny dings in the rear drivers side quarter panel. Very hard to see and only visible under certain light. No paint loss. 6-7: Two areas of scraping/gouging to rear bumper. 8: Closeup of one small area of paint loss on rear passenger side door pillar (previously pictured) 9-10: Two tiny areas of paint loss on the hood (no doubt from rock chips over the years) On Jun-07-18 at 09:09:51 PDT, seller added the following information: *Note* Please contact me directly using the telephone number listed in the ad if you are a new bidder or have fewer than 5 feedback ratings. Failure to do so will result in your bid being cancelled. Thanks!
