Vehicle Detail

Car is being re-listed solely because the winning bidder of the last auction that won at $7,000 was unable to come up with the funds. That winning bidder never saw the car and never had anyone look at it on his behalf. The sole reason he did not purchase it was his economics. I respectfully ask any bidders to please have sufficient funds available to purchase the car if you win. For sale is my 2003 Mercedes Benz CL500 with 82,840 miles (it will be higher as I’m still driving it). The color is a dark metallic grey that Mercedes calls Tectite Grey, with a dark grey full leather interior. The leather is supple. No check engine lights. No malfunctions on the car’s computer diagnostic screen (see picture). No leaks. The car drives, accelerates and brakes normally. No modifications. Passed New York State Inspection on 1/11/18. Lumbar supports work. Speakers all sound great. Rear sunshade works as intended. All parking sensors work (information added 1/26/18). One prior owner. Clean CarFax and AutoCheck. If you want an amazing car to drive and enjoy now, this is it. Next oil change / service is not due for 7,000 miles, as listed on the car's on-board computer diagnostic. This is the best iteration of the CL -- the CL55, CL65 and CL600 have significantly higher repair and insurance costs. Kelly Blue Book states that this car, in this condition, with these miles, has a private-party value of up to $11,225. A Mercedes Dealer is now selling a 2003 CL in Silver with 85,000 miles for $14,995. And this car didn't sell last time at $6,750 with 785 views; at least I know that I would be a terrible used car dealer! This car has the best suspension Mercedes offers: the ABC suspension. The hydraulic pump that powers the system seems to last about 70,000 - 90,000 miles. The pump and the primary valve were replaced last year and the system was flushed multiple times with new filters and 10 liters of the correct hydraulic fluid, so the suspension should be good for at least the next 70,000 miles. Although the car is normally garaged, I left it outside during last week’s snow when it was 10 degrees to show that the suspension is not sagging. The only other owner of this car was the CEO of a metals trading company whom only used it in the NE during the spring through the fall, transporting it to Palm Beach for the winters. Car has always been garaged, even at work. Adult owned, maintained and driven. Engine: Clean, dry and does not smoke, leak, knock or make any unusual sounds. Burns no oil. Transmission: Functions flawlessly. Paint: Routinely washed, clayed and waxed. Not compounded and ground down to no or thin clear coat. Deep luster -- see pictures. No accidents and no paint work. Interior. Good condition. Dark grey leather seats (heated), dash, and doors; all functions work. Leather treated with Mercedes leather conditioner. No burned out pixels in displays. AC is cold. Heat is hot. Carpets look great. No smells (no smoking, no eating, etc.). Car has not been flooded and all the drains are clear. Brakes: Fluid flushed every 2 years. Tires: Michellen tires on the original wheels. Nitrogen filled. Optional Wheels: The 19” AMG 2-piece wheels (see bolts around the perimeter) in the first 2 pictures and picture #23, with Continental DSW high-performance all-season tires (the latest version) will be available for purchase separately at a $1,700 discount from market value, as discussed at the end of this Item Description at the option of the purchaser of this car and, if not purchased as set forth therein, the car will come with the original 17" wheels, as shown in the other pictures (i.e.: with the word Michelin written on the side wall of the tire, as shown in the 3 close-up pictures with the CK marker in the lower right hand corner in blue). Yes, the "D," "W" and "S" are fully visible in the treat (you can read about these tires, but these letters are wear indicators and, that they are all visible, shows that they are essentially new). What is included in the sale: Tool set, jack, spare tire, floor mats, books and sales literature (in the original Mercedes carrying case), and navigation CDs (in the original Mercedes carrying case). Title: Title is clean. I will sign it over to the purchaser when the car is picked up and paid for in full, listing the verified buyer's name on the title. All taxes and fees due to the DMV are the responsibility of the buyer. Although I have tried to explain what I know about this car based on having owned it for 3 years, this is an as is, where is sale with no express or implied warranties or representations of any kind. Your bid constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle, per the terms listed in this description. Within 24 hours of the end of the auction, the winning bidder is required to make a $300 payment via PayPal. The balance of the purchase price is due at time of pick-up within 10 days after the auction ends. If the car is not picked up as contemplated herein at no fault of seller and the $300 payment is not made as required, buyer has no further rights, forfeits the deposit and agrees that the car may be sold with no obligation to offset or refund the $300 payment. I will meet the winning bidder at a mutually convenient police station in Northern New Jersey to finalize the transaction. Payment must be made in cash, which means United States Currency in $100 bills, not any form of bank instrument, money order, certified check, IOU or anything else. Provided the bidder is a long-time eBay user with a well-established history, then I suspect we can reach some agreement and I would accept a wire transfer, if the buyer is having the car shipped, in which case I would also deliver the car to the shipper at the Short Hills Mall in New Jersey (there are many major highways in the area), provided the car is paid for in advance. We''ll finalize this transaction if its in case at the police station for the safety of us both. The terms set forth in this written description supersede anything to the contrary set forth in this auction. Car is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel this auction at any time. Bunch of questions, so I’ll consolidate the answers: For potential buyers to better understand the value of this car, I'd encourage you to drive and inspect other CLs, since many of them need thousands in repairs and service. Some of them have obvious hydraulic suspension problems just by looking at the pictures. One person asked about a comp that is less, but it originally had a gray interior that was partially replaced with a tan interior. There are many cars with 40,000 - 60,000 more miles, often in lousy colors, in only fair condition, accident history, with no evidence that the ABC pump was replaced and the fluid changed. The 2003-2006 models are substantially different than the 2002 and earlier models; the newer version is identified by the “wide screen” navigation, which my car has. This car has a low-stressed V8 engine, with no expensive turbochargers and superchargers to fix. More about the wheels available for purchase by the winning bidder of this CL: They are Mercedes Benz factory 19" two-piece, modular AMG wheels that Mercedes offered as an option and added to the first few 2007 Launch Edition CLs. They are forged, so they are much lighter than cast wheels. These wheels are about $7,500, without tires, and are still available in the Mercedes Benz option catalogue; part numbers: A2214000302 (front) and A2214000402 (rear). Just prior to replacing the tires they were tested for round at the wheel straightening place in New Rochelle, NY; they all are straight and balance on a Hunter high-speed balancing machine. Another set of these wheels is available on eBay now for $2,700, without tires. The tires are EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06; Front: 245/35ZR19; Rear: 275/35ZR19, that cost $1,000. Nitrogen fill. No damage and no plugs. The buyer of this car will have the option to purchase the AMG wheels with the DSW tires for $2,400, in which case I will leave them on the CL. This price is $300 less than the other set for sale on eBay that doesn’t come with the best all season tires made, so including the $1,000 tires a savings of $1,400. If the purchaser does not want the original wheels and tires -- since you'd use the DWS tires / wheels for all-seasons, I will deduct an additional $100 (which saves me having to go to storage), so a savings of $1,500. Last 2 pictures of interior have been added, per request. These show the condition of the driver's seat and the dash on 1/16/18. The price shown in the auction has been reduced $600, because last night someone closed the driver's side door by pushing the top of the glass, which caused a crack in the outside pane of the double-paned glass in the driver's side door. The glass is available for $150 and a local shop quoted $325 for installation. The crack is only on the outside pane of glass, the window is sealed and functions as usual, up and down. There are no sharp edges and no pieces fell off; it is functional as-is. Also, it will pass NY and NJ state inspection in its current state, as confirmed by the inspection station and reading the rules (i.e.: there are no sharp edges) and by two NJ inspection stations. Car was almost never driven in the snow and, when it was, I washed off the salt from the underside. A New Jersey and a New York inspection station both confirmed the car will pass inspection with the D/S window as is -- so there's time to get it fixed and my mechanic didn't get the glass in yet. Yes, the sun roof works. Took the car on a 250 mile road trip this weekend -- car was perfect, with 23 m.p.g. -- it gets 26 m.p.g on the original wheels/tires. One person that inspected the car -- for 2 hours and drove it for 1/2 hour -- noticed that the burl wood trim on the P/S door was loose; my mechanic re-attached it, remarking that the tabs are all in place, it was just not installed properly. No other issues were noted. The inspector remarked it was in amazing condition for its age. We were just a bit apart on price. That was $1,500 higher than the starting price for this auction. On the weekend of 2/10 took the car to Philadelphia and it ran flawlessly. 4/22 took the car on a 100 mile trip to CT and with the front and back windows down -- and since it doesn't have a B pillar -- it has a tremendously open feeling and is a delight to drive. Car continues to run great with no issues. In addition to the recommended services performed by Mercedes Benz (and the ABC pump replacement and valve replacement as listed above), here are some additional services that were completed by the Mercedes Benz dealer, as shown on the CarFax: 15,000 -- Alternator / Generator replaced.30,000 -- fuel injunction system flushed / serviced. -- brake fluid flushed.47,000 -- brake fluid flushed. -- fuel filter replaced. -- spark plugs replaced. 55,000 -- ABC pump and main valve replaced; system flushed (have receipts). Doug Demero just posted a redeo re the Cl65 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PCP5XZs3Wxc 4/29 Took the car on a 120 drive from NJ to CT -- car is running great. It is an absolute pleasure to drive.
