Vehicle Detail
Original Survivor 1978 Trans Am, factory original W72 220hp Pontiac Motor, First year for the legendary WS6 suspension option, factory 4 speed manual transmission with factory Hurst shifter. Factory optional custom interior seating with the optional velour upholstery. 101, 340 miles. This vehicle is California produced Solar Gold Trans Am, which Pontiac only produced at the Van Nuys plant for less than one year given that the paint process required by California emmission regulations required a different process. That process caused the Solar Gold cars paint to nearly disintegrate within months after delivery depending on the vehicles location of delivery and weather conditions etc...This vehicle is wearing all its original paint except for the passenger front fender and half of the front bumper cover on the passenger side. With exception of the transmission, the entire vehicle is numbers matching. Someone along the way a Muncie replaced the BorgWarner. This car is amazingly tight and well driving, testing to the kind life it led. It is believed to have been its the original owner until ~2013. In the past two years: Factory carb rebuild set or original specs, Ames reproduction factory seat belts, GM authorized Factory center caps and lug nuts. I have the original nuts and caps which will go with the car. Most of the suspension is original and drives very well. One exception would be the rear shocks were replaced with red Koni's seeming to be sometime in the 80's...again a statement that the owner was an enthusiast and cared for the car. Factory A/C is missing, car is equipped with delay wipers and option map lighting. Finding a 1978 W72, W6S, 4sp car original and tight that hasn't been apart , that was also factory equipped with A/C is very difficult to do as most of the1978's didn't have A/C. Add the custom interior option and fact that it is a Van Nuys produced Solar Gold wearing 90% original paint with the later year black twilight treatment and it's a needle in a haystack car as Pontiac enthusiasts will know. Others, please do a little research to understand the rarity of this combination with Solar Gold being ceased at the Van Nuys plant in 2nd half of 1978 and the blacked our taillight treatment being added in the 2nd half of 1978, its a rare bird. Typical rust spots near lower wheel openings. Trunk, frame, and underneath are very solid. Car was rustproofed thoroughly when new, including inside all body panels which has clearly preserved this car. If you want an original survivor that runs and drives as it should, you've found it. Anyone is welcome to come see, and drive the vehicle. Car will not be release without cash, cashiers check, money order. 10% deposit expected within 48 hours of auction close. Thank you and good luck.On Apr-14-18 at 04:27:38 PDT, seller added the following information: Video of vehicle at idle can be found on iCould https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0K5n8hH4G2bbSn;C5A0018F-7BC8-43CA-8001-2704ECBECDABOn Apr-14-18 at 05:39:49 PDT, seller added the following information: I received a question and all bidders may benefit with the answer: The headliner is original. If you look at the picture toward the rear window you can see the factory perforated material. I realize these photos are not great as I wanted to focus on the less attractive more problematic areas of the vehicle so that no one is disappointed when winning the vehicle. Rather, they will be pleasantly surprised. I drove the vehicle last weekend, started right up after sitting all winter, drove beautifully and I snapped a few photos which I'm happy to text to any who inquire. After watching some T/A with a lot of incorrect details run through Barrett last night, someone can get a bargain here. More importantly, you'll get a correct, tight, rattle free, original unit, with factory desirable options. I suggest you watch the video from link I posted and note sound at the rear of the vehicle and all quiet up front by the engine bay.
