Vehicle Detail

Up for sale a really cool piece of motocross history. The mighty 1971 Suzuki TM400 Cyclone. This is the first year that Suzuki developed and manufactured an open class racing machine. The cycle featured a potent 40hp motor with a 34mm Mikuni carburetor and weighed in at 236 lbs. There were no points to mess with because of the new PEI electronic ignition and no mixing gas with the Suzuki CCI automatic lube system. The bike rolled on tough Akront aluminum alloy rims and featured five way adjustable shocks out back for rear suspension. I originally purchased this bike about 8 years ago as an incomplete restoration. The bike had a rebuilt motor from top to bottom and the fenders and tank were already painted. The rest of the bike needed more attention. Recently, I went through the whole machine and added numerous NOS parts that include spokes, footpegs, intake manifold, airboot, tank straps, sprocket cover, and numerous fasteners. The bike is very close to the original showroom condition. It is actually very challenging to find one of these '71 TM400's that is intact. It was very common for racers to remove the airbox, the oil injection system, and change the suspension. Usually the side stands were cut from the frames and the swingarms were modified. Over the years the steel tanks would rust out, the forks would get pitted from rust and often the chain would get thrown and break the engine cases. Overall, the 1971 Suzuki Cyclone is a beautiful machine. It has the classic chrome handlebars and numerous chrome plated bolts. Many of the fasteners have the Suzuki "S" logo cast into their tops. It takes a really strong leg to kick start the engine and the stock exhaust with no silencer is really loud. Going through the gears gives you the sensation that you are riding a bull. It's powerful, but can't wait to throw you off. This cycle would make a wonderful addition to any vintage MX collection, however I would like to point a few small issues with the machine. There is a a scratch on the rear fender when a bicycle fell over on it. The left engine case was replaced with a new OEM case because of a thrown chain. The CCI auto lube reservoir was replaced with a much smaller Suzuki made accessory oil tank. I was told it was called a competition oil tank and only held enough oil for a motocross race. Other than that, the bike retains the stock airbox with the lid and clips. The oil injection system is intact with all the oil lines. The fork tubes are rust free and there are no leaks anywhere. The cables are all new, the seat cover is new, and the fuel tank is free of rust and coated with oil on the inside. In closing, this racing machine comes with a Bill of Sale only, I do not have a title for it. I will assist with the delivery all that I can, however the cost of shipping is up to the buyer. Now, get yourself that Christmas present you didn't receive in December.
