Vehicle Detail
Vintage 1981 Honda XL500S. 100% OEM and 99.9% original. Third owner. The only non-original parts are the foam air filter (replaced this year with an OEM replacement) and the battery (but I still have the original one if you want it, and it still holds a charge). Always garaged. Ridden only by the 3 riders that have owned it. The first was a 43 year old, the second was 70, and I'm in my 50s. Never abused. Needs absolutely nothing. Clear title with no damage history. The ONLY part that needs replacement (or possibly repair) is the plastic retaining ring on the front shock that holds the front brake cable to the shock (see photo) but is not necessary. This bike is a collector, not a commuter. This is why I'm selling it. I am an avid dual sport/dual purpose rider and this bike is just too tempting to ride. I take it out on Sundays for about 10 minutes and put it away. My wife won't let me mount it on the living room wall like I want so I'm selling it to someone that might be able to. There are a couple of minor scratches on the front fender and the ones that you might be able to see in the photos on the side covers and small one on the gas tank. Runs like a brand new bike with 1000 miles on it. Yes, the tires are original with no weather cracking. Pulls the front wheel off the ground in a flash. Original owner bought it to ride in the oilfields of Texas but after falling over on a muddy road the first time it rained (this is where the fender scratches occurred) and hurting his knee, he decided to go back to driving his pickup. As far as I know, this is the only time this bike has been down. Slow speed in the mud. The photos speak volumes. Bar ends are there. The luggage rack is the only Hondaline option that was available for this bike, and it's on it. This is not an aftermarket rack. Lights never removed. TOOL KIT IS THERE AND COMPLETE! Even has the original ignition key (only one) and all locks work perfect. Nothing bent or tweaked. No rust in the tank, on the tank, or anywhere else on this bike. No, it's not cheap but it's the cost of owning a museum quality bike after a thorough museum detailing wash. Owner is responsible for shipping if you aren't picking it up. Let me know if you have questions.
