Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE I purchased this in May 2016 with the plan to restore it and put it back on the road in its' original form. The picture is what the bike looked like the day I brought it home. Once the carbs are cleaned and rebuilt you can ride it in its' current condition. Here’s the story: I owned a new one in 1983. If you're not familiar with these bikes, here are a few of their highlights: shaft drive (no chain mess or maintenance), water-cooled transverse mounted V twin, very strong for it's engine size. Used as delivery vehicles in England and typically are good for 200K+ miles before a rebuilding. After getting married and moving to long island, I concluded that the traffic was too much here (I’m originally from Pittsburgh and used to ride into the quiet mountains in southwestern Pennsylvania). Now after the kids are grown, I got the itch to ride again, so my wife gave me money for Christmas so that I could begin riding again. I searched Craigslist and Ebay and eventually found this one. The previous owner said it was running but the carbs were gunked up and would need to be re-built. Well, I’m up for a challenge so without any additional diligence, I drove to Boston and brought it home on a trailer. The previous owner was correct, it started right up and it does run, but the carbs are a mess. I purchased books specific to re-building the carbs on a cx500 (the books will be included in the sale). I also purchased a Clymers manual, in addition to a book on re-storing CX500’s (also will be included). I was committed to this new project! I disassembled the bike (removed the tank, seats, side panels, carbs etc.), the motor is still in the frame. Once I got into it, I realized that I don’t have the tools required, and more importantly, I have never re-built carbs or re-stored anything. Subsequently I quickly realized that I was in way over my head. Once I was lost and scared, I went back to craigslist and Ebay as I still wanted to ride again. I’ve since purchased another bike (not a cx500) and have been riding it. Well, I can only ride one at a time, plus I only have room for one bike, so this one must go. In addition to the Clymers manual and re-build books, I also bought replacement mufflers. The ones that are on it are rusting. They’re still on the bike and I will throw in the new mufflers. The tank, seat and side covers are in very good shape. The tank has a dent in the top right where the previous owner allowed the handle bars to “over turn” and caused a dent (see pic). Also the paint is showing some “patina”. For it's age, the bike is in very good shape. This has “very good bones” and shouldn’t take much to restore it to original condition, or create one bad-ass café racer. This is the frame and engine that is sought after for just such a purpose. I have over $2000 invested, but I’m realistic and don’t’ expect to get back what I have into it. Check other cx500’s listed and you see that my reserve price is reasonable. I will consider reasonable offers. I want to make sure it goes to a good home as I love these bikes! Clean title in hand. In addition to the books and rebuild manuals, I'll include a gallon of anti-freeze, gallon of oil and new oil and fuel filters.$500 deposit via PayPal required within 24 hours of closing. I reserve the right to close it early as it is for sale locally also.
