Vehicle Detail
Selling my Chevy Corvair Monza. I have owned this car since March this year, kept it garaged and only driven on weekends. I recently tuned the timing and gave the engine a once over; it’s in amazing shape. I am selling only because I recently latched on to an old Mercedes which I am restoring. So, with just a one-car garage, I have to let the Corvair go. The gentleman I bought this from owned it for about a year; he bought it from a collector of sorts, who refurbished the car to its excellent current condition. I don’t say restored, because the car has less than 60,000 miles and the engine did not need to be broken down, and the car had no rust to speak of. Details are as follows as to new or upgraded components in the last two years: Rebuilt carburetors with stainless steel carb linkage and high-flow air cleanersNew spark plugs, cap, and plug wiresNew starterNew alternatorNew heater duct hose, fan belt and various rubber grommets and insulatorsNew Crane electronic ignitionNew hard fuel linesBackup electric fuel pumpNew stainless steel gas tank floatNew Ray Sedman billet shift coupler cooling fan and idler pulleysNew clutch cableNew high volume heater fan motor and heater fan bladeFuel tank cleaned and sealedNew filler hose and vent hose installedNew Clarks exhaust with stainless steel tips Suspension and brake components by the first owner include:New front sway bar bushings and upper/lower ball jointsNew rear bushingsReal wheel bearings disassembled, greased and fitted with new sealsNew KYB Gas-A-Just ShocksFour wheel alignmentNew brake parts, cylinders, hoses and shoesDrums turnedNew Hankook Optimo radial tires Original cowl tag decodes as follows2A = 1st week of December production dateS = White/Black interior66 = 1966 model year103537 = Chevrolet Monza Sport CoupeWRN = White/Black interior trimRR – Regal Red exterior finish The first owner performed an extensive bare metal and glass-out repaint in Delstar acrylic enamel followed by acrylic clear coat. Rust repair was limited to a patch at the base of the windshield which was replaced with a NOS panel. 14” Rallye wheels were painted to match and are accompanied by new beauty rings. A Camaro front lip spoiler was added. Glass was fitted with new weatherstripping. Mild modifications on the dash included a VDO tachometer, oil pressure and voltage gauges with an aftermarket stereo player. Topped with quad single-barrel carburetors, the air-cooled 164 ci flat-six is believed original and is paired with the factory 4-speed manual transmission. Records are limited, but the previous owner reportedly performed an extensive refresh to the engine about 7,000 miles ago that involved a light port and polish of the heads, three-angle value grind with staked valve seats and the installation of a bolted flywheel, new clutch with pressure plated and new seals and pilot bushings. New valve and oil pan gaskets were fitted at the same time. No cracks in the dash – it was re-dyed in a black crinkle finish. Seats had new foam installed in them and the upholstery is perfect. There is a removable center console with dual up holders. All instrument controls and functions work perfectly – turn signals, lights, gauges, wipers. The odometer is a Speedhut GPS multi-function speedometer installed at 53,806. The Speedhut odometer now reads approximately 5,200, which works out to a total mileage on the car of approximately 59,000.
