Vehicle Detail
No surprises here, it’s 100% clean, 100% ready to run and well taken care of. Clear title (no salvage, theft, flood damage, lemon law, or any other weirdness). Feel free to call or email me with any questions or if you want to come by for a viewing / test ride before you bid. There is no lien on the car and the title has only my wife and I on it; there will be no surprises when you try to register it. My wife and I are 51 and 48; we have owned and loved the car since 2008. Features Stuff on all Envoy XLs: • Best feature: 3-row seating for seven (3-wide in 2nd row, 2-wide in 3rd row). Space behind the 2nd row is EXCELLENT for big trips with our family of four. Seats are easy for even small kids to deploy and stow. • Next best feature: the ride quality. It is VERY relaxing and very confident. • Next best feature: excellent towing! It has a longer wheelbase than a Tahoe, Yukon, or Expedition, and a shorter rear overhang. This makes for excellent trailering stability. • Next best feature: excellent visibility. The low, sloping hood and the low window sill makes for easy awareness around you. • Displacement on Demand-- later branded Active Fuel Management. This shuts down half the cylinders when cruising at light loads, causing the fuel economy to be just as good or better than the 6-cylinder. • Child seat restraints are the LATCH system, which is the same anchor system that all new cars have today. The tethers are far easier to connect / disconnect than the other cars we’ve battled with (Explorers). • Power windows, locks and mirrors. • Cruise control • All-weather floor mats, front and back. • Power swing-out rear windows • Keyless entry with alarm • 25 gallon fuel tank • Full size underbody-mounted spare tire • Cargo area light • Roof rack • Back glass can be opened separately of the liftgate. This is very handy for loading those last few items. Stuff that comes with the SLT package: • Dual-zone automatic climate control. Rear seat HVAC can be controlled from the front or rear consoles. • Turn signal lights (blinkers) in the rearview mirrors • Factory tinted windows from 2nd row back. • Cornering lights are awesome! They turn on with the blinkers; you will be surprised how often you are thankful for them and wonder why your other cars don’t have them. • Fog lights • Lots of power outlets; there are (3) at the front seat console and (1) at the second row • Disc brakes all around for good performance and easy/cheap pad replacement. Not all Envoys came this way. • Cargo compartment has a removable privacy lid (shown in photos). I’ve always kept it removed, as the tinted rear glass is enough to make the stuff in back invisible. • Excellent audio system with speed-sensitive volume control • 2nd row audio plugs – allow the rear passengers to listen to a different music source than the main audio speakers • Controls for audio, trip computer, and cruise control on steering wheel • Power moonroof with sunshade • Tilt steering • Leather heated seats • Leather steering wheel • Heated mirrors • Auto-down power driver’s and passenger’s windows; all other windows are power up-down • Electronic compass nested in mirror • External temperature display • Low washer fluid sensor and warning • 17” polished aluminum alloy wheels • Front and rear reading lights • OnStar and XM radio hardware (only works if you subscribe; I never have) Stuff included that is not part of SLT package: • 5.3L V8. The same excellent, reliable small-block used in the Silverado/Sierra. The inline six was retired early because this engine out-performed it in reliability, performance and real-world fuel economy. • AWD setup is the same as the 2005 Sierra, because it has the transmission, transfer case, and differentials right out of the Sierra. Transfer case choices are all on one electronic selector switch: 2Hi, Auto, 4Hi and 4Lo. • Tow package includes the hitch (Class 4, 2” receiver), auxiliary engine oil and transmission coolers, and 7-pin connector. Tow rating is 7000 lbs, with up to 700 pounds on the hitch. • Running boards (boarding steps) have been great for the kids and short adults • 10-way power front seats (including lumbar), power adjustable pedals and power mirrors with memory presets (1 & 2) that are tied to the separate remote fobs such that it’s set to your liking when you get in! • Headlight washers • Rain-sensing automatic windshield wipers • WeatherTech floor mats for the 1st and 2nd row; these in in excellent condition and fit great. We did not get them for the 3rd row and the cargo area because WeatherTech does not offer them for the Envoy XL. Condition • Interior is as excellent as you see in the photos—you will not believe it’s 12 years old! It has NEVER been smoked in. • When cleaning it up yesterday I noticed the rear seat audio display still has the factory protective film on it. Kinda cool and funny. • Leather seats are excellent. There are no punctures, tears, or staining. • Mileage shown here should be very accurate when you buy it. We have two other daily drivers; the Envoy stays in the garage day and night unless we’re using it on a trip. • Body is tight—no creaks or groans. Fender wells are remarkably rust-free. The driver’s side rear door has some rust showing on the bottom edge; I suspect this is due to imperfect painting in 2008 (see ‘Damage History’). All blemishes in the paint are shown in the photos; they are very minor and I am proud to show them off. See ‘Paint’ bullet below. • Tires are new! Yokohama Geolanders were installed in Nov 2016 and have only 2900 miles on them! • Suspension is perfect. Alignment is exact; the last tires wore very evenly. Shocks still have perfect damping. Ball joints have no clunks or squeaks at all. • Doors, hatch and hood all fit like new, close smoothly with no creaks or surprises. • Wheels are in good shape except for the corrosion under the clear coat caused by the crimp-on wheel weights. The photo you see is the worst wheel. The bead seats were thoroughly cleaned to ensure no leaking; I just had the front tires remounted this month because there was very slow leak-down in those two. • Headlights are in excellent shape—note in the photos there is no hazing or crazing. The lights are one of the best features of this car. All interior and exterior lights work, including instrument dimming. The only occasional glitch is the right turn blinkers, which will sometimes flash all the blinkers (like the hazard lights) when I come out of a carwash. Once I turn the key off and restart it goes back to working perfectly. It has done this for 5 years. • Paint is excellent for any age. VERY minor stone chips or door dings…doesn’t look it’s age at all. Note that the last (5) photos are intended to show the flaws. You can see the wheel corrosion under the clear coat, (3) minor scuffs on the rear bumper, some small chips on one fender, the rust on the very bottom lip and leading edge of the driver’s side rear door, and (3) minor flaws on the right front corner. THAT’S IT; there are no other body flaws. • Engine is smooth and strong. Has never failed to start immediately on even the coldest Wisconsin winter mornings. • Battery is excellent. I load test it every fall and it’s as strong as new so. • Air conditioning is very strong; works perfectly and gets cold quickly. Two years ago I added half a can of R-134a using the AC Pro do-it-yourself kit; it worked great and has not had any added since. Fan blows without any buzzes or rattles. Heated seats work perfectly. • There are no leaks at all—this car drips NOTHING on your garage floor. • Brakes and tire balance is perfectly smooth—no pulsing or shaking at any speeds. • Interior and exterior lights all work, including interior dimming • 4-wheel drive system works perfectly. Ownership / damage history • I’m the 2nd owner. I bought it in 2008 with 50,000 miles from a dealership in northern Indiana. It had just come off lease. • The first owner had a deer strike on the front right corner • Right after I bought it (2008) a Volvo drove into the left side of it, crumpling in both doors and the running board. They were replaced with new. • In fall 2015 I hit a deer with the front right corner. Fender and grill were replaced; hood was repaired. The weird paint striations you see in the bumper cover are from where the deer flexed it and it sprung right back. Maintenance history • One ignition coil and wire was replaced in 2012, as the engine computer said it was going bad. • March 2015 / 83,800 miles: Front left hub/spindle/bearing/seal replaced as a unit. (The bearing was growling.) New brake pads installed at all wheels. • June 2017 / 92k miles: O2 sensor replaced. It displayed a Check Engine code in March. • November 2015 / 85,600: New air filter installed • August 2016 / 89,400: Engine oil and filter change. The engine computer reads 60% oil life remaining. I have always used only Citgo semi-synthetic oil. • Nov 2016 / 89,824 mi: New tires installed What you get… • A great family hauler and tow vehicle, confident for cross-country road trips • Owners manual and DVD • 2 keys with 2 keyless entry keyfobs (yes, those are the dealer’s temporary ID tags from 9 years ago; it surprises me too) • 2 replacement oil filters (I always change my own) • OEM textile and aftermarket WeatherTech floor mats • Guarantee! If the car is not exactly as pictured and as described, don’t take it. I pride myself on an accurate listing to ensure there are no disappointments.
