For Sale As-Is: 1997 Lincoln Town Car Signature Edition 54,000 miles Well Maintained. Not Driven In Winter. $5,000 Or Best Offer. Car is an excellent candidate for full restoration or just hit the road and drive as is. Sweet driving car for one of the last land cruisers, very smooth, substantial ride. Purchased in 2004 with 35,000 miles; 54,000 current mileage; used primarily as a commuter car 16 miles round trip daily; not driven in winter, kept stored and covered outdoors on a dry gravel surface October through March Climate controls work except air conditioner was just charged but still only blows hot air; AM/FM radio/cassette/speakers work; power sunroof works but dealer stated switch design is unreliable and could fail in open position even if replaced (suggest get improved after market switch); power trunk and gas access release work; donut spare tire; good set of Goodyear tires (suggest get fine quality touring tires for the ultimate smooth ride). Original clean carpets included. Repairs done: driver's exterior mirror replaced/painted to match; air bag suspension replaced with coils and shocks. The car rides just as smooth. Fine quality touring tires are what will make the ride so perfectly smooth. Get a set that you are certain will give a smooth ride, don't just decide based on major brand advertising. I found the Korean brand with the unusual name Whankook Kinergy GT gives a superb ride. I have used them on other Lincolns and Cadis. A switch was installed on the battery to turn power off during storage months to preserve the battery. The car starts right up each spring no problem. The battery needed to be replaced when power was left on all winter while the car was stored. Repairs recommended for full restoration: new touring tires, exterior paint job (pearlized tan), fresh dark brown dye application to the canvas carriage top; new headliner, new upholstery (ivory color) or new finish to existing leather, repair front seat power controls -- driver seat is still operating but some movements hesitate a little, passenger seat only moves up and down and inclines the back, will not move seat forward or backward; check body for water tightness, some times a little rain leaks into the trunk and condensation will form on the inside of the windshield above the dashboard. The ABS anti-lock/anti-skid brake warning system light comes on sometimes. The Door Ajar light is on. Door switches need to be replaced one by one till the failed one is found and replaced. This causes the floor illumination lights to be on. When the car is turned off, they go off after a timer pops so the battery does not run down. Some Musings on where cars are headed - Buy it now before the world collects all our cars and leaves us hailing for a limited number of self driving taxis effectively taking possession of our mobility. Can you say population control boys and girls? Enjoy it now while you can. If you told me this in 2004 when I bought the car, I would have wondered what you were smoking. Now, the stop watch is ticking away to make this really happen. Bon Voyage to the Tradition of American Automobile Ownership...Hello Yellow AutoCab World!
