Vehicle Detail

The Summary I purchased this vehicle, brand new, from a Southern California Land Rover dealership in 1997 (see original bill of sale document in a 15 minute Youtube slideshow). I have retained most of this Rover's service records. Although most simple oil/lube changes and 2 major service records are missing. I am currently trying to get a hold of these missing records. This Discovery 1 runs like new (see multiple interior and exterior live driving demonstrations posted on Youtube) and has been VERY well taken care off (this Vehicle's purchase includes paper service records detailing approximately $15,000.00 USD spent in upgrades and maintenance). I am sad to let this Rover go, and I really hope it ends up with a good owner. I want to be clear with ALL the negatives before mentioning what works great, since I know this car inside and out. The main reason Im selling this car is because I currently reside outside of the United States for most of calendar year and can't drive this car on a regular basis. Also, for registration in California it must pass CA Smog. To do this, It will require a new O2 sensor or a new right catalytic convertor. My mechanic estimated $90.00 to 1500.00. to fix these issues--see details below. Otherwise, it drives and handles like new in its present condition. Deposit is accepted through Paypal. Final payment is accepted by bank/cashiers/personal check(once cleared) or Bitcoin. Failure to pay will result in $150.00 re-listing fee. Local pickup is desired. But, you may have the vehicle delivered for a fee. In the latter case, I'll aid in delivery logistics within reason. All shipping charges, taxes, license, and registration fees are the buyer’s responsibility. Please request a test drive if you are able to meet up in Orange County, CA. PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING, I'M HAPPY TO HELP. I HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY THIS DISCO AS MUCH AS I HAVE & HOPE THIS RELIABLE ROVER WILL FIND AN APPRECIATIVE NEW OWNER!!! *The last full service was done by a mechanic that does Land Rovers ONLY on 08.16.16. at 123,380 miles. After a full diagnostic he concluded that there were no serious issues with the vehicle and all basic/important problems had been fixed. The specific service record & mechanic contact info are available for the new owner. **IF, you are an individual buyer considering this car for your own personal use: I'd be happy to remain in contact if you ever have questions or issues with this car. Watch Video Video will open in a new window Lets Start with All of The Bad This car recently failed CA smog requirements: Issues were 1) right catalytic o2 sensor failure--which could cost between 90.00 and 1500.00 to fix (according to my mechanic's estimate) 2) Evap sensor--Evap is most likely due to bad gasoline cap (please contact me directly if you need more information). The Yellow (Not Red) check engine light is activated due to these issues. The CA DMV has issued a temporary free 1 day permit to allow this vehicle to be transferred to a new owner. After the new owner conducts a smog test and presents the results, the CA DMV will issue a 60 day permit, for $ 50.00, so the vehicle can driven while it is being repaired. This car has 1 minor fender bender from rear-ending a Ford Taurus in 1999, during "bumper to bumper" traffic on Laurel Canyon Blvd LA, CA. This accident slightly bent the passenger side front bumper. This slight bend isn't easily noticeable, but I try to show as clear as possible it in the pictures and youtube video. NO ACCIDENTS OTHERWISE. The rear passengers seat windows do not operate. This is due to an internal electrical connection and not because of switches or failure of the regulators. Up until a year ago they used to work sometimes, but now fail to operate at all. These minor electrical issues are a common theme with older Land Rovers. There are a few minor oil leaks around the engine block (see multiple pictures). The leaks do not affect long-term oil retention and are easily fixable/sealable. Oil leaks are also a common problem with most older Rovers, although size and severity may differ. 2 Headlight washing jets are missing. I've seen OEM replacement parts available for sale around $10.00 to $20.00 on Ebay. No Sunroof installed—though dual sunroof option exists. Although, many older Rovers suffer from leaks in their sunroofs Rear window defroster control does not activate (This seems to be due electrical connection and not a failure of the defrosting glass mechanism). I noticed this problem around 5 years ago. Personally, this hasn't ever affected my visibility while driving since the car doesn't fog up easily. There is clear coat damage on the roof's drive-side front corner & rear driver-side corner (see pictures and youtube.com). Estimate to full restore roof paint was $150.00 to $300.00 There is very minor oxidation on certain portions of the black exterior trim. Specifically, it's around the driver door, passenger door & rear passenger door window frames. This is also a minor issue on the bull bar and roof rain gutter trim (see detailed pictures). No visible rust on main auto body or chassis (see detailed pictures of undercarriage). Corners of rubber seals on trunk windows and tail-door have very minor cracks--3 windows in total. (See Pictures). These cracks are easily sealed with black silicone calking available at any hardware store. "Yellow Antilock" brake light remains on, although the antilock brakes work wonderfully(see Live Movie). This "yellow light" has been a superficial issue for the 10 years. Cruise Control button/feature does not activate. It seems to be due to usual electrical connectivity failures associated with late model Land Rovers. Discovery 1s have cruise control failure as a common problem. 2 internal “night lights” do not work. Im mostly sure that is due to a disconnected circuit during interior roof lining restoration. The 3rd rear trunk light works fine. Front passenger's side-view mirror's heated glass is cracked (see close-up pictures and youtube video). Rear view mirror casing & motorized control is fully intact. This OEM part is $20.00 to $30.00 on Ebay. Front Hood and Rear Door are missing brand decals from Paint Restoration to Original color (Epsom Green--see documents for receipts) . Each Front seat has a single damaged seem at the base of the seat (see pictures and youtube video). Otherwise, all seats/leather (including 3rd row "jump" seats) are in virtually new condition. Rear Grill guards (for brake lights) & Roof Ladder are slightly oxidized (see pictures and youtube video) Rear Wiper Arm & Blade are missing. This part was removed and never reattached after aforementioned paint restoration. This issue has never affected my visibility during rainy weather. Front passenger side plastic bumper cap has slightly noticeable structural damage (see pictures & youtube.) OEM bumper caps can be found easily for around $40.00 to $60.00 Now, The Good This car starts, turns, accelerates, and brakes like NEW (see the Live Tests in Youtube). I Purchased this car as NEW from Bauer Land Rover/Lotus Anaheim, in 1997 (see pictures and documents for original bill of sale) and have maintained it regularly since that time. I have most service records totaling over $12,000.00 spent maintaining and upgrading this this car. (All service records will be delivered with vehicle) Car has been regularly serviced with original parts except the Bosch battery. The battery was replaced less than a year ago and runs strong(see pictures and movie). Power steering is tight and works like new with no fluid leaks. There are NO irregular sounds/leaks from transmission, engine, wheels, or belts. Car sometimes makes a soft creak on sharp turns. I mentioned this creak to my Land-Rover mechanic during the last service. He stated that it was due to the rubber bushings which cushion the engine for a smoother ride when at high speeds. He stated that this was an insignificant/superficial issue. The Transmission works perfectly—including gear differential lock. NO delays/sticking when shifting or accelerating. This Rover is truly a durable and agile force whenever I have driven it in difficult on-road/off-road(mud, snow, sand, etc) conditions. The Air Conditioner, Heating, & Fan work GREAT (temperature control panel was changed a few years ago--Im currently tracking down this receipt) Both Driver and Passenger Electronic Motorized Seat Controls Work Perfectly. Tilt adjustment for Steering works. The Headgasket was replaced around 12,000 miles back. (service record & receipt is available). Apparently, this is a normal issue--though VERY costly-- for older Discovery 1s. Driver and Front Passenger power windows work great. The Driver side window regulator was replaced recently (service record available ) Passenger and driver side sun visors internal vanity mirror/lights operate perfectly (recently repaired with original & new Land Rover parts) Exterior Headlights/High beams and Interior Dashboard Lights work Perfectly--except cruise control lights, which don't illuminate at night. All External and Internal Main Brake(red light--pad & drum status), E-Brake, Turn Signals, and Emergency Lights work Perfectly (See Pictures taken at night). Front Windshield Wipers and Windshield fuild jets work perfectly. Tire Tread Virtually New (see Pictures of Tires). Tires were changed around 7k miles back (service record & receipt available) 2 Rear Jump seats provide additional seating, totaling 7 seats. The jump seats are accompanied by a rear hydraulic entry step (see Pics & Movie). All are OEM add-on parts and were Land Rover Factory/Dealer installed. Factory/Dealer installed Bull Bar, Rear Ladder, and premium side molding. All OEM add-on Parts (see Pics) Factory/Dealer wired for 2 additional Hella headlamps, on the Bull Bar(totaling potential for 4 hi-beam headlamps). Though the original Hella headlamps have been removed. Front Windshield Defroster & Heating works perfectly. No major paint chips/scratchs, digs, and dents, in main auto body. There are 2 minor paint chips on the hood and 2 on the side doors (see pictures and movie) Front right side of bumper is slightly bent due to minor "fender bender" in 1999--as mentioned above (see Pictures). Again, the Bend is barely visible though I'll try to capture it with pictures. NO ACCIDENTS OTHERWISE. Paint restored to Original color, Epsom Green (see Pictures & Receipts/Records) Interior Roof Lining restored ( see Receipts/Records) Alarm & Remote key entry works as it should unlocking/locking. Brand New Front Seat Covers (non OEM) Pre Wired for 6 disc CD changer--under passenger seat. Can be re-wired for USB/Smart Phone input or standard electrical outlet. Rear Seat Chlid Safety Locks work as new Factory tinted middle and rear windows. (See pictures) Retractable and Removable Privacy Cover for the rear trunk space (see pictures) 2 keys, 2 lock/unlock remotes, & owners manual/documents. I've only used Premium Unleaded gasoline in this vehicle
