Vehicle Detail

Warranty Number: 5F08A86167 Year: 5 1965 Plant: F Dearborn, MI Body Series: 08 Convertible Engine: A 289 4v V8 Unit: 86167 86167 Data Plate Information Body: 76A (Standard Interior-Bucket Seats) Color: M (Wimbeldon White) Trim: 26 (Black Vinyl) Date: 05R (April 1965) DSO: 52 (Des Moines, Iowa) Axle: 1 (3.00:1) Trans: 6 (4-Speed Automatic) About the car: The car originated in Des Moines, Iowa where I purchased it back in September 2003. My understanding is that owner bought the car from a family member that originally bought it new from the dealer back in 1965. It sat for years under a lean shed exposed to the elements, but he bought it as a 'hobby' to tinker around with. He had an inexpensive paint job applied to it and would enter car shows (daily driver category) with his wife. As they got older, he decided to let the car go. He stated that the mileage is original and sits at around 29K as of today. I bought the car with the intent to do some heavy restoration to it with my son once he got older, but he never really got engaged with the project so it has sat in my garage for the last 14 years. From time to time, I have tinkered with it thinking I would do the restore myself - but never found the time. The good:The engine is strong. Great compression. It sits for extended periods of time and can be tempermental in cooler weather at startup.Cylinder walls and heads/valves are clean and excellent condition. The carburetor is an autolite 4100 that was professionally refurbished. (Has not be adjusted)The valve cover gaskets, intake manifold gasket, and oil pan gasket have all been recently replaced. The car has new front end shocks. The tie rods and steering linkage has been replaced (needs alignment)Fueling sending unit has been replaced (issue with wiring or gauge on dash)Fuel pump has been replaced.4-core Aluminum Radiator installed.Power Top is in very good to excellent condition. The bad:The car does have some rust in the undercarriage. This was going to be my next priority, but I never got around to doing it.Fuel gauge isn't working (does have new fuel sending unit)The car has sat for a while and can be tempermental when starting after sitting for a while (or cooler weather). It still has drum brakes and does not have power brakes.Don't have the original valve covers or air filter housing. Summary: The car is 52 years old and is far from perfect. It needs some attention, but I think can be a great car for anyone that wants to put a little time into it. I have some catalogs that I will put in the car, along with some repair manuals. I will try to answer any questions related to the car to the best of my ability. On Apr-22-17 at 06:26:27 PDT, seller added the following information: I apologize for not getting back to a lot of you on questions that have come up. We have had a family medical emergency that has taken me away from being able to focus on this listing. I had attempted to update the listing yesterday, but for whatever reason - my update did not publish. The primary question I have gotten as been related to 'rust' so let me try to cover that. Please keep in mind that I am not an auto body expert. I crawled under and around the car and posted some additional photos and videos yesterday that can be found in the link in the primary description. The car's undercarriage was apparently sprayed with some sort of rubberized coating at some point. I am not sure if this was done at the factory or done some time after. It looks to be as old as the car and makes the underside of the car look more 'rusty' than it is. From what I can tell, the primary rust area is in the torque box area. Everything else seems to be more on the surface than anything else. Nothing that I can tell in the front, fender wells, firewall, floor pans or rear of car looks to be rotted. Just the torque boxes themselves. The trunk is free and clear of any visual signs as well. Please see link in the description as for the photos and HD video that I took of the undercarriage. I want to be as clear and forthcoming as I can on what I know. Thank you for your interest.
