I have done some work on it. I put on a drivers fender from another skylark and needs holes drilled for badge. Had rust in the usual places, but mostly at the quarter panels. Trunk and shock towers are all in good shape. No holes in the floor boards that I can see. I have not taken the carpet out so the original sound deadener are there, and I notice rust dust. Have not touched the engine yet other than take out the water pump, AC unit, alternator and take out the plugs to put in some deep creep and diesel. It does need a rebuild. Has not been started since 1988. Has been sitting outside under a tarp since 1988. The last two years has been in my garage. Needs complete restoration. All the images are here. You are welcome to come and check it out before you bid. From Hemmings review. ENGINESThe GS 455 was actually an option to the base GS during the 1971-'72 model years. As the badge hints, the 455 signified the selection of sales code A9. With its 4.31 x 3.90 bore and stroke, five main bearings, hydraulic lifters and Rochester four-barrel carburetor, it was the same basic big-block that had been introduced in time for the 1970 model year. DIFFERENTIALThe final power transfer point was a corporate 10-bolt open differential containing an 8.50-inch ring gear and semi-floating axles. As had been the case for some time, engine/transmission selection determined the final drive ratio. For example, a base 455/automatic combo resulted in a 3.08:1 gear, with 3.42:1 optional. A base 455/four-speed came with the same 3.42:1 gear. TRANSMISSIONSBoth the A9 and A1 engines mandated that GS buyers had a choice between the Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 automatic transmission and the floor-shifted four-speed manual. That automatic could have been shifted via column-mounted lever, or through a full-length center console. It contained three forward speeds; the ratios were 2.48, 1.48 and 1.00:1, with a reverse ratio of 2.08:1.
