Vehicle Detail

This car was purchased by a local lady as she approached 60 years of age while living near Burbank California in the late 1980s. It had under 20,000 miles. It was her pride and joy that she kept in the garage and only drove very sparingly. She always left the hardtop on, and never drove the car as a convertible. She and her husband kept all the repair records from 2/19/88 to the time I purchased it from her estate. On 2/88 the mileage was 20,124. On 11/91 after she moved back home to West Virginia, it was 28,074. On 9/94 it was 34,233. On 2/01 it was 44,694. When I bought it from her estate out of the garage in her home it had around 54,000 documented miles. Her family, who I had known for years, assured me that the car had truly never been driven in the rain, not even once. When I Iooked this car over, I understood they were telling me the truth. [Since then I have been caught out in the rain once or twice]. The car was garage kept the entire time it was here, and she would not allow it to be sold, even after she became physically unable to drive in 2010. I acquired it in 2013 and needed only to buy new Michelins for it and replace a couple of window rubber seals. The car has never been wrecked and has never had any rust. The paint is original except for the trunk. She dropped something on the trunk and ordered a new OEM trunk deck from the dealer and had it painted and installed. The wheels are spectacular as shown. There is zero rust underneath or anywhere on this car. None. Upon pickup, I can arrange the use of a car lift to allow close inspection of the underside of this car for confirmation if desired. If a buyer wants to fly here to inspect, I will pick you up in the car at the airport (CRW) at your convenience. I have the records where the dealer in 1988 (37,511 miles) made the all-important conversion from single to dual timing chains. The 4 page invoice showed they paid $10,000 to have that done. The car runs smooth and quiet and glides over bumps. Everything works. Nothing needs fixed. Transmission shift up and down smoothly. The light assemblies are all perfect with no crack or chips or fogging. They are all as nice as the one pictured. When I removed the hardtop, there was the original OEM Mercedes soft top in mint, unused condition in the storage well. It is shown in the pictures and is in as beautiful condition as the rest of the car. When I examined the trunk, I found the original spare tire intact, apparently having never been removed since the "hang tag" was still affixed--take a look at that picture. The dash on these cars almost always have developed stress cracks from aging or from the sun. Many come with dash covers. The dash on this car is showroom new---no crack of any sort. The visors are perfect. And the zebra wood console is absolutely as nice as the rest of the car with zero cracks or chips. Unbelievable condition. The interior deserves special mention. There were seat covers on the car when I got it! I took them off and underneath were basically new looking, essentially unused leather seats. You would expect the interior of a 56K mile car to be very nice. But this one is ever better than you would expect. I suspect it looks like it did when it had 20K miles. The carpet throughout is OEM original and in excellent condition, even in the trunk. What sets this car apart is the rare rear "grandkids seats" in matching leather with seat belts. I don't think they were ever used because the back of the front seats are perfect. But kids can sit in the back of this car in relative comfort. With the car comes the tool kit, glove box set of manuals, top removal tools, and the records from 1988 to now. The hardtop stand is not included, and the hardtop will be on the car upon pickup. It, also, is in perfect condition with original paint. If the buyer pays timely but needs me to keep the car safely garaged for up to a month, I have no problem doing so. But I am selling it because I need the room, and hope 30 days will suffice. I am semi-retired and can cooperate with the buyer's transport service and meet their schedule and needs regarding pickup. I will be accessible and cooperative throughout. Feel free to call with any questions. Call Bill at 304-389-3900. Leave a message and I will call back. It is for sale locally, so this listing could end abruptly. On Nov-30-16 at 18:08:21 PST, seller added the following information: Sorry, I just noticed a typo. The dealer timing chain conversion was in 1998, not 1988. It was done in Charleston, West Virginia by the local Mercedes dealership, Smith Company Motor Cars.
