Vehicle Detail

For sale, a recently completed restoration of a lovely little Honda CB400F. Yes, this is relisted, and the reserve and the "Buy it Now" are both lowered. This is the first and most desirable year, in the fastest color, Varnish Blue. This bike has had a complete going-over, with many new OEM and reproduction parts. Engine was honed and re-ringed by the previous owner, starts and runs very well, smokes a teeny bit at first, this may get better as it is ridden more. Recently replaced parts during the restoration include the fenders, rims, spokes, turnsignals, handlebar switchpods, handlebars, gas cap, mirrors and seat and much more. The frame and stands were powdercoated black. As I woke it up from an 8 year slumber this winter, I sourced a much better (unlined) gas tank, plus a new petcock and decals, and had it professionally painted locally, including the (reproduction) side covers. The carburetors were professionally rebuilt with new bowl gaskets, but the (superior) original brass was reused. The front brake line (hose) was also replaced, and the front brake caliper was rebuilt and the adjusting hardware replaced. I also replated many of the fasteners, including most of the engine cover screws and bolts. All of the electrical connections were cleaned and renewed, including the area under the sidecover. It has a new battery, charging system is working properly. The chrome overall is just short of excellent - there were teeny pinhole rust spots on the exhaust that easily polished off and should stay gone with any regular maintenance. You will have a hard time spotting them. The engine paint is "very good", there is some flaking in a few spots on the underside, but I removed the sidecovers and vapor blasted and hand-finished them so they are not painted, and they look excellent. Same with the valve cover, it was removed and vapor blasted and the bolts replated. The tires look near-new, but they are in fact 8 years old. They ride and grip fine, and show no evidence of cracks or dry rot. The fork tubes are perfect or darn close. Fork stanchions were 3/4 polished, look excellent. Fork seals excellent, oil and dust. Clutch springs were replaced along with a new clutch cable. I did a "3000 mile tuneup" too, including adjusting the valves, checked the sparkplug gaps, point gap. It has new oil and filter, doesn't leak any. The rear shocks work fine and look OK but were a little surface-rusty. I cleaned them up and they won't catch your eye but they will re-rust if not looked after. Inexpensive Tec replacement shocks (OEM) are available for ~$140 if it bugs you. Overall this bike presents as "very very good", I'd say just short of excellent. It's got too many new reproduction parts to ever be a concourse bike and so it's not highly collectable, but it's a really good rider, starts and runs really well, looks fantastic. Should be ridden and enjoyed - perhaps as a nice "hers" bike to go along with "his" vintage Honda. A bit too small for me :-). I would be happy to help a prospective buyer arrange shipping, and I know several very reputable shippers that can deliver it anywhere in the continental USA. I'd also gladly answer any questions, want the new owner to be happy and well informed. USA sale only. Item is for sale locally here in Tucson, Arizona and so this auction may end early. If you have negative or low feedback or any history of non-payment I will probably cancel your bid. As always, please don't bid if you are not prepared to follow through. Thank you! On May-16-16 at 15:39:26 PDT, seller added the following information: EDIT 5/15 A bidder asked if the exhaust was original, bearing the original Honda stamps. The muffler is definitely reproduction - the only lettering on it, just below the mounting bracket says "Pre 1985 Only". I'm going to guess that the headers are reproduction parts too, given their (excellent) condition. The centerstand stop/pad does line up perfectly. On May-18-16 at 11:22:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Edit: An interested party asked about the smoke, wondering if it was thick, etc. I may have overstated that a bit, you be the judge. I also pulled the plugs this morning and found them light to medium brown. I backed out the mixture screws a half a turn to lean it out a tad. (now at two turns out). Jets are stock sizes. Here's a video of it starting and running this morning. Watch the tire most closely in the video, you can see a teeny bit of something there, but it could be condensation.
