Vehicle Detail
Acquired this 1973 Suzuki TM250J vintage motocrosser as a basket case with the intention of doing a full restoration, then set about acquiring all the missing components. Began work assembling it in a running, riding condition to ensure it would be a viable project before sinking money on paint and shiny parts., but sadly that's as far as I've got with this one. It's mostly complete, runs and rides, but I haven't made a start on cosmetics . The engine is stripped of paint in preparation for a rattle can spray but I never got to it, so it looks like hell. This is a solid base for a restoration for vintage motocross racing, or even just as an ornament as this is an increasingly rare bike. To be clear, there will be some work required to finish , but it now a viable project as the most of the major work has been done. It runs , rides, and shifts through the gears nicely. It starts first or second kick and runs crisply. It has no title of course, being a dirt bike. Video here: https://youtu.be/xsrrhEv2HWw I'm moving back to Australia and can't take this with me so has to go to a new home. I've spent hours on this bike and will be sad to see it go and will try and be as honest as I can in my description. . The bike was stripped down to every last nut and bolt, the engine removed, cases split and the bottom end rebuilt with a new (refurbished) crank and rod, new main crank bearings and new oil seals and gaskets throughout. The transmission is refreshed and in great shape, oil pump, clutch, gear selectors, electrics, wiring, alternator and stator all overhauled. The carb has been stripped and rebuilt, frame painted, new control levers, throttle, gas petcock, kill switch, and air filter pod. I have the original airbox which will come with the bike. The brake lever is not installed in the pictures but is included, as well as a small selection of spare parts. The top end is good for now but will probably require a re-bore if you plan to race, or at least a decent honing . Piston pin, small end bearing and head and exhaust gaskets were replaced with brand new parts. Included is an assortment of minor spares and arepair manual and original parts list, a great source of information as each part is illustrated clearly with exploded diagrams. A lot of parts are interchangeable with the Suzuki TS series and are readily available. No reserve, local inspection welcome. I'm happy to cooperate with your shipper but please research your own estimates. Things to be aware of:It will need new tires front and rear. they are cracked and hard.Missing rear fender.Oil pump cable and reservoir. I have a temporary set-up in place. Some wear on the engine cases around the mounting bolts. The tank is dented and a little battered. I don't think it is original to this model.Cush drive rubbers need repacking, the drive sprocket is a little loose on hub.Chain guard roller needs replacing, as does sprocket cover.
