Vehicle Detail
Selling my 1988 Hurricane. I bought the bike from the original owner 4 years ago with @ 16k miles on it. That same year, i rode it to Arkport Cycle in Arkport NY where they changed the engine oil & filter (and replaced oil drain plug sealing washer), flushed and changed the coolant (was told radiator looked to be in good working order), changed the fork oil and set fork pressure to 3PSI (right in the middle of the recommended pressure), changed front & rear brake fluid, installed all new EBC brake pads front and rear, replaced coolant hose from overflow tank to radiator, replaced drive chain w/ a heavy duty (better than original) TSUBAKI chain, sprockets were checked for wear, replaced rear license plate bulb. Arkport Cycle also sync'd the carbs, air filters looked good, & adjusted rear brake light switch, all to the tune of $450. ...... There is literally nothing this bike requires. Tires are Dunlop Arrowmax's and have @ 1,500 mi. on them. Battery is 3 yrs. old and i tend it every Winter while the bike is covered (cover not included) and stored indoors. This example has not been abused. I'm in my mid 50's and the gentleman i bought it from would now be in his late 50's. The bike makes no engine noise(s), no cam chain/tensioner noise. It's never been "wheelied" or what have you. It runs and shifts through the gears at all RPM's smoothly as it should. Cosmetically, the bike does have numerous scrapes, scratches, scuffs, etc.. I've tried to capture most of them in the photos. Tank has a few small nicks in paint. It's never been laid down at speed, but the original owner did say, in the process of changing the oil, he twice in his 24 years of ownership had the bike tip over in his driveway. There are zero cracks, zero repairs to the body panels (skins) and they're all original. Paint's all original. Exhaust and jetting of carbs all original. The grips are aftermarket and i believe the clutch lever rubber sleeve is an add on, but the entire rest of the bike is original (excepting of course consumables like tires, battery, spark plugs). Certainly not a museum quality example but far beyond the average example you'll find. If you're a fan these first 2 yr. Hurricanes w/ their colors, graphics, red wheels, etc., then you know how many are now minus their original body panels due to crashes. This 3 color version, that was only available one year ('88), was in my opinion the classiest looking one they turned out by far and it's what i went in search of. I'm selling simply because i have far too many toys in the garage. I'm sure if you're here, you know the legendary record of this bike. They're silky smooth with great suspension. It feels as if you're on rails. They're comfortable & forgiving on the behind and arms unlike the sportbikes that have followed.... just an overall pleasant sportbike with lines, that i feel, are prettier than any other sportbike ever made. In any case, email if you have any questions or call my cell at 1-585-851-1718 if you like. Sold as is. There are no "returns", no warranty. i'll leave it up to you to arrange shipping, trailering, or riding it home. i'll help load, etc.. Thanks for viewing the auction, and Best of luck to you. Trent P.S. In response to a few inquiries i've received..... If you choose to pay for the bike entirely with Paypal, that's fine, but you'll have to add 3% to your winning bid. ( that's $60 on $2,000, for example )
