Vehicle Detail

This little machine was bought new in Germany in May of 1966 and received it's 500 km service in Germany and thereafter it was serviced at Sill motor sales in Cleveland at 1,485 km on july 26, 1966 and again in Akron at 2,580 km on Oct,8th, 1966 as evidenced by it's service card at which point nothing else is listed. The gentleman who owns this machine is a life long BMW enthusiasist and only recently quit riding due to health concerns. While this bike was last licensed in the mid '70's it was properly stored and the engine turned over several times a year for decades. After seeing the light of day for the 1st time in a long time the bike has been completely gone over and refreshed while taking great care to retain it's originality. Repainted were the centerstand and springs, footpegs f&r , rear brake rod and both levers along with the handlebar perches and some other minor pieces. Frame, fenders , tank and most everything else are still in their factory finish and the tank stripers initial still can be seen (see pic). The tank was flushed out and retains it's factory lining which is still in great shape. The carb was completely cleaned and a new float from vech installed and a new cable as well along with a new carb-airfilter rubber ,clamps and filter. A new petcock was screwed in and new, original spec lines plummed in. The head was remover for inspection and the cylinder sandblasted and painted and given a fresh light hone to help break in the new rings. The head was glassbeaded and thoroughly cleaned while the valves and seats were given a light lapping. A new sparkplug was then installed. The oilpan was removed and the sump cleaned along with the oilpump. after a new gasket and drain plug seal the crankcase was filled with fresh oil and the gearbox and final drive received fresh gearlube as well. A new Hardy-disc was put in at this time also as the original had "disappeared" over time as they always seem to do. The drive "pegs" on tranny and driveshaft were not beat as can sometimes be found when used after the Hardy-disc gives up. The tires were removed and the spokes cut out and replaced with new spokes and nipples after the hubs were glassbeaded , SS wirebrushed and bearings replaced and reshimmed. A Metzler lasertec front tires was mounter along with a Heidenau rear tire with new tubes and rimsrrips. The wheels look like showroom except for some signs of it's age and at 50 yrs old I think it deserves to show some age. While the new handlebars were being mounted the ho-lo / horn switch wiring was seen to be bad so new wires were ran in new sheathing, tinned and terminals cleaned but the horn was found to still not work so it was cleaned and a lil adjustment had it working good (for a 6 volt horn). At this time the perches were sandblasted and painter and the levers lubed. New clutch and front brake cables were also used. New grips were installed also. A new battery has also been strapped in. All lights work as they should and the horn too as stated. The headlite received a new ring but the taillight ring is original and shows some pitting. The seat looks remarkable and shows no signs of fatigue to the frame/suspension like some do and the cover is free from holes or tears while the aluminum trim looks great but could benefit from a lil polish for added splash! The rear fender hinge area looks very good and works like it did 50 yrs ago with no signs of seizing or rusting but there are some paint chips up further where a luggage rack may have been fitted at one time. After all this, when the time came the fuel was turned on and the machine was kicked thru ALOT to help pump some oil around. The catb was tickled and a few more kicks to prime it and when the key was pushed in it fired on 1st kick! It did take a few kicks to keep it running but since then has shown to be a machine that wants/likes to run. There was no smoke to speak of and it continues to impress me. After several heat cycles the valve covers were removed and head re-torqued and valve lash set. I have a couple of these lil bikes and find them to be GREAT backroad cruisers at 35-45 mph speeds. While capable of 55 mph on the smaller highways (I feel 65 would be ringing their necks) it's the secondary roads where these bikes really shine. This bike is in very good condition for it's age BUT please remember it IS a 50 yr old machine and while it is a BMW (Best Motorcycle World,,,lol) it won't do what a modern 250 will do. Someone seeking a survivor bike may do well to own this one. The paperwork for this bike when purchased in Germany will be forwarded to the next caregiver. Those with NO , LITTLE or NEGATIVE feedback please don't bid without contacting me first or your bid will be retracted and you will be banned from future bidding on any zundapps or bmw's that may be listed in the near future. Those bidding without MOM's permission will be sent to bed without supper! While overseas bids will not be accepted to help avoids scammers I can be reasonable with some communication beforehand. Shipping IS the buyers sole responsibility but I can put you in touch with someone who has done a great job for me in the past and you two can hammer out the details. Good luck and happy bidding. On May-02-16 at 08:45:11 PDT, seller added the following information: It should be noted that this a triple matching number machine as delivered from the factory. The engine, frame and I.D. all match. Pictures of which are available upon request or any other picture you may want to see. I took over 70 pics but the picture pack ebay has only let me post 24. I also forgot to mention that all the engine rubber mounts were renewed too. None were broken but being 50 yr old rubber I doubt they would have lasted long. Any question just ask. If you would like to talk then give me your phone number and a good time to call you. Test rides ? Really?
