Vehicle Detail

1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1 Convertible Roadster Yes, this is a verified and authenticated 1965 Sunbeam Tiger Mk1 powered by 4.2L 260 V8, not a clone. Sunbeam Tigers have been quite the elusive cats over the last few years having made onto the hit list for collectors near and far. Possibly due to the Shelby influence, since he is the one that figured out how to wedge a Ford V8 into this British Sportscar. If you are looking for an attainable Tiger that you can restore on your own this maybe the car for you. Do note that is is a running and driving example. This is the first time that a Sunbeam Tiger has passed through our hands since as they don't trade around as often as other cars. We kept this one as a conversation piece in the Gallery for almost two years. This is the first time we are offering her for sale, so here is your chance to have a piece of Automotive history. This Tiger has some documentation or provenance, as it has spent the last few years in Jeff Allen’s Collection on display at Flat 12 Gallery, where it has been stored indoors with fluids cared for. It was featured on Season 3, of his show, CNBC’s “The Car Chasers”, where it was purchased out of the Evergreen Historic Automobiles Museum where it resided as a display vehicle. Previous to that it appears it spent a majority of its life in California in LA and Beverely Hills and had a through mechanical rebuild in the 90’s from engine to bearings to hoses and shocks to condenser. Due to the recent increase in value and attention that these Tigers are getting in the market Jeff has decided to sell it rather than his plan of building a restomod Tiger with a Coyote motor. He feels that it is worthy of a restoration back to its original color, but that is really up to the winning bidder. Most importantly, is the fact that in 2000 this Tiger was inspected by the Sunbeam Tiger Owners Association and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity confirming that it did start life as a Tiger. Approximately 7100 Tigers were built during their 3 year production run with 3800 of them being Mk1’s. Comes with: Hard TopCertificate of Authenticity TAC #393Repair ordersOwners Publications2000 rebuild documentationLAT Alloy Wheels Condition: This car is what I would describe as a barn find or driver quality. Although, it is far better off then the barn find Tigers that I have seen for sale as of late. It really deserves a cosmetic restoration but the bonus is this is a running and driving Tiger. As mentioned earlier, most all the mechanics of the car were gone through in 2000. It does have the desirable removable hardtop option and underneath that it has a soft top (newer) although it has never been installed. The trim and brightwork for the most part is nice and the interior is nice. The seats are good but the carpet is worn and faded some from age plus the dash has a few cracks. The hard top is in good shape with just a few bubbles of rust starting below the rear window of the hard top. Currently finished in Cardinal Red although, This car needs a repaint and was originally a green car and will need some repairs from cracked paint and spiderwebbing. It has some visible rust that I have photographed, that appears easily repairable and not out of the norm for a British car of this age. In some ways our description can sound too harsh compared to how other describe their cars, we just want to be clear that it isn't a fresh build. On that same note she runs and drives great…. so inspect the photographs and contact us if you have any specific questions. She is a great find… not a bucket of issues and not priced out of this world. The floors are good although we did notice that the X frame does have some pervious damage to it on the passenger side. The floors are good there is a quarter size hole in the trunk which is photographed and windshield does have a crack in it. About the Alpine Tiger: The Sunbeam Tiger is a high-performance V8 version of the British Sunbeam Alpine roadster, designed in part by American car designer and racing driver Carroll Shelby and produced from 1964 until 1967. Shelby had carried out a similar V8 conversion on theAC Cobra, and hoped to be offered the contract to produce the Tiger at his facility in America. Rootes decided instead to contract the assembly work to Jensen in England, and pay Shelby a royaltyon every car produced. The 1965 Tiger Series I gained some exposure on American television as the car of choice for Maxwell Smart in the spoof spy series Get Smart. -wikipedia Please Read: This vehicle is being listed by Flat Twelve Gallery, a licensed Texas Dealer, as seen on CNBC's television show “The Car Chasers”, and is located in Dallas, Texas.
