This is a rare opportunity to own a very special classic Mustang. It was purchased new in the Los Angeles area by a woman who kept it for the next 40 years. This was a very original car when I bought it in 2007 from the granddaughter of the original owner. It just needed restoration, and over the next several years I brought it back to excellent driver/show condition, and it's now ready for its next new owner. This car still has its original black California license plates--the exact ones registered to THIS car when it was brand new, and it still has the California-only smog system intact and working! This 1966 Mustang was originally optioned with the 289 C-code two barrel V8 engine, C4 automatic transmission, power steering, vinyl top, and deluxe pony interior. Reproduction styled steel wheels, AM/FM radio, and Rally-Pac were added. The original wheels and hubcaps come with the car. This is an early San Jose production 1966 Mustang. It was purchased new at Chaffee Motors in Hawthorne, California by Geneva Shelton on October 2, 1965. I know this because I have the original sales documentation, which Mrs. Shelton saved. She also saved all the receipts for work and maintenance performed on the Mustang over the years since day one, so I have a fairly think folder of receipts organized by decade, starting in 1966! Mrs. Shelton kept the car until she passed away and her granddaughter inherited it. When I bought the car in 2007 it was all there and all original but it needed work. I created a mostly original driver/show car that's tons of fun to drive and draws attention wherever it goes. Being a California car almost its entire life and then moving to New Mexico for a short time, the body was in great condition. It only had a few minor dents, and minor rust in the lower corners of the doors and behind the rear wheels in the quarter panels, which is typical for early Mustangs. The car was completely stripped to bare metal and the rust was cut out and properly repaired with metal patches. Then the body was sealed, primed, block sanded, and painted with high quality DuPont Chromabase base coat/clear coat paint. The color is a very beautiful shade of gray/green, which is very close to the original color of Sage Green metallic, just a little prettier and more interesting. I left the original paint in the trunk, and the new color is close enough that it looks like the same color, just new paint. When the car was reassembled, all new weatherstrip, new bumpers, all new emblems, and a new vinyl top were installed. The windshield is also new; all the other glass is excellent condition original. I had the original California black license plates and the license plate frames from Chaffee Motors professionally restored, and these can now be registered to the car and used if the car was registered in California. The optional pony interior features all new carpet, door panels, dash pad, headliner, seat covers and more, in a custom two tone black and parchment scheme. The original pony faux woodgrain steering wheel was professionally restored, and the seat belts were re-webbed. Extra insulation was installed under the new carpet, and new custom embroidered Mustang floor mats protect the carpet now. The radio is a modern reproduction of the optional AM/FM unit, with MP3 input. Four high quality JL Audio speakers are hidden in the original location in the dash up front, and in the package tray in the rear. You get modern sound with original appearance! Mechanically, this Mustang is ready to drive. Mrs. Shelton had the engine rebuilt, so it runs great. During the restoration I detailed the engine compartment to make it look like new. I had the original Autolite 2100 carburetor professionally restored. I installed a new timing chain, water pump, alternator, fuel pump, and Ford Motorcraft battery--those are all new! A Pertronix Ignitor in the distributor eliminates the points and provides for increased reliability. The California AIR smog system is complete and functional, which is very rare on one of these cars! I had the front suspension professionally rebuilt with high end roller bearing spring saddles for smoother operation and longer life. In the rear, new leaf springs restored the correct ride height. The car has a new custom dual exhaust system. The reproduction styled steel wheels have dual-redline radial tires by Diamondback--these are actually BF Goodrich Radial TA tires that have the dual redlines specially vulcanized... again, modern performance with classic good looks! The underside, including the floor pans, is straight and rust free and could be detailed if someone wanted to take the car to the next level, but it's so much fun to drive and show as-is. I entered the car in the local Mustang club annual show the last two years, it it placed first in class both times--yes, those trophies go with the car! I have thousands of dollars in restoration receipts that will go with the car, in addition to all the original paperwork and receipts since new, and even a few old pictures of Mrs. Shelton and the Mustang! It's very rare to find a car with this much history and originality. There a lot of old Mustangs out there, but this one is special. Inspections welcomed in Albuquerque, NM.
