Briansbaron Store Increase traffic to your listing with Auctiva's FREE Scrolling Gallery. 1968 FORD MUSTANG GT/CS California Special   Genuine 1968 California Special Mustang with limited production one-year run.  This highly desirable Lime Gold GT will stand out like the Shelby’s of the period with similar paint and stripes.  This car deserves a quality paint job to finish the in-process restoration.  Once completed, car value should be over $25,000.  California Special from California dry climate – doesn’t get any better history than this.  Take advantage of this honest Mustang project at a fair price.  Excellent foundation car without all the rust issues so many Mustangs fall victim too.  History Built in San Jose, CA, sold at Ford dealer also in San Jose.  Car spent its entire life in California until 2003, when it traveled north to Portland, OR.  Restoration body work was performed at Blue Ribbon Auto Body in Portland.  Supporting documents include several CA registration documents, and license plate with 2003 tags.  Marti report verified option list is provided.   Facts California car built March 25, 1968 in San Jose (as all California Specials were) and also sold in San Jose, CA. One of 4118 California Special (GT/CS) hardtops built in 1968. They shared the same rear taillights, taillight panels, deck lid spoiler, and side scoops as the Shelby GT350 and GT500 convertibles. Also included special GT/CS stripes, blacked out grille, rectangular fog lights, and twist style hood locks. Car has the Lucas fog lights that came on all but the first few months production which had Marchals. Originally a 289 2 barrel engine now replaced with 1967 A-code 289 4 barrel out of a Cougar.  Estimated 90,000 miles on factory motor that runs great and has no oil leaks and no smoke.  Includes factory Autolite 4300 4-barrel carburetor and factory style dual exhaust.  Original A-code numbers engine and carb tag, along with C4 auto transmission from same donor car.  Includes rebuilt heavy-duty 3-row radiator from A/C equipped car. Factory options consist of: Bucket seats, console, automatic transmission, tinted glass, AM radio, power steering, power brakes, and deluxe seatbelts.  Equipped with GT/CS options that have all the Shelby style add-ons and turn signal hood with indicator lights. Original twist hood locks still need to be installed to this replacement hood.  Additional upgrades include dual exhaust, with factory quad exhaust tips with GT rear valance.  GT pop open fuel cap is also present and is in very nice shape. Car is completely free of rust.  No rust found on frame rails, trunk, floorboards, cowl vents, torque boxes, etc…  All panels are original and unaltered including rockers and rear quarters.  There are no signs of past body work on the quarters, trunk, or tail light panel.  Factory front floor pans still retain original green paint and underlayment.  This is a non undercoated car - so what you see underneath is real Ford original panels and not hiding anything.  Front end of car has been completely rebuilt by professional body shop with new donor Mustang front aprons, and core support.  Excellent panel gaps at doors, rockers, cowl, hood and fenders.  Bumpers are older, but are straight, and have a good chrome with nice shine. Factory power steering w/ rebuilt steer column is nice and tight.  New rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders, turned drums, new front calipers.  Factory booster works well and has no leaks. Front end has new suspension control arms and all rubber components.  Steering linkage is tight with new idler arm.  New bushings on factory front sway bar.  Rear end has been upgraded to Ford 9 inch with 3.00:1 gear ratio.  Nice 215-60-14 radial white letter tires on original Ford chrome Styled Steel 14x6 inch wheels.  Includes excellent set of GT center caps and stock beauty rings. Colors are Lime Gold exterior with black interior.  Professionally stripped, prepped, and primed with PPG K36 primer.  Doors have guide coat applied.  All trim and weather strip is removed, and jams were sprayed in preparation for proper return to factory color.  All steel body work is completed – all that is required before paint is block sanding.  Front fenders are ready to come back off for painting in factory method if so desired.  All fiberglass parts are still in blue color change from a prior life, but are original to this car – verified by sanding thru to reveal lime gold factory base paint. Inspection Runs and drives.  Engine has a mild exhaust note is very smooth from low idle up to speed.  Good compression in all cylinders, no visible smoke, and recent tune-up.  Before installing engine, all freeze plugs were removed, engine cooling system and jackets power flushed, and new freeze plugs installed.  Cooling system is free of any rust or debris, and has nice fresh antifreeze and is completely leak-free.  No oil leaks, no exhaust leaks, no fuel leaks.  New fan belts have been installed.  Transmission shifts thru all gears nicely and has had a recent filter and gasket change with new oil.  Cooling lines are properly routed and connected to radiator.  A new neutral safety switch is installed, and works as intended.  Trans kick-down linkage is present and is functioning correctly. Good suspension, shocks, brakes, and steering.  All brakes work well including properly adjusted parking brake.  Car stops nice and straight.  Speedometer works, all dash lights work, dome light works, however, gages are not reading correctly, and all front exterior lights still require hooking up at main wire harness.  Alternator charges well and voltage regulator is functioning. Window regulators and door glass are currently not installed in doors, and vent windows are installed with a single fastener so they can be easily removed before painting.  All glass is included as well as a second set of door glass (choose the best parts – sell the rest).  Back window is not installed into gasket – waiting until after repaint.  Windshield is installed into new gasket, but glass is cracked and needs replacement.  All window trim and original parts to complete car are in the trunk.  Heater assembly is included, but still requires installation.  New package tray installed, just needs painting.  Here’s the known list of items required for purchase to finalize assembly: Dash pad, carpet, sill plates, hood locks, seat belts, console radio support with door, door panels, door weather stripping, heater control cables, mirror, radio and door speakers.  Ignition key and trunk keys provided and work well, but door locks will require rekeying to match.  Original seats with original upholstery are nice, but not perfect.  Driver’s side has minor 2 inch long split along back upright seam, passenger has small puncture in seat back, vinyl is aged, but no cracking or fading.  Rear seat is nice and complete.  Headliner is original and still very nice, visors show age, and chrome pivots are a bit faded.   Factory console is installed loose, but does have all wiring, and shift indicator parts along with padded inserts and rear light.  Still needs upright radio support with “garage door” to complete.  Dash has been repainted black and installed with newer panel inserts with nice chrome.  Dash cluster milage showing 55k miles is not original to car, but is very clean and rust free, and has a new chrome bezel.  Original fog light switch with factory relay at fuse box is present.  All original wire harnesses are installed, including the special fog light leads for the GT/CS fog lights.  Steer column is rebuilt, and turn signal switch works well.  Steering wheel has been restored to new finish with nice used black pad and new turn signal lever.      For more details, please contact seller.  I will be happy to share any details, and take additional photos as requested.
