Vehicle Detail

1979 Jeep CJ-5 Renegade Silver Anniversary. This is probably one of the most rare and sought after Jeep CJs of all time. These were produced in very limited quantities, around 1000 I believe. This one is equipped with the AMC 304 V8 engine mated to a T150 3speed manual transmission. It has power steering and power brakes. It has the original Whitco soft top that is in great shape, minus the window fade and a couple of seams that need to be re-stitched. The front seats have been redone due to some wear on the originals. They are beautiful, with the original buttons and excellent craftsmanship. The rear seat is original as are all the seat belts. The back seat looks like it has not been sat in. It has the original AMC radio (not hooked up) and gauges. The tachometer works, but the clock does not. I have had this Jeep for about 3 years, I bought it with the intention of doing a full restoration, but I could not bring myself to strip the original paint and patina. I have not put many miles on it, but it runs great and shifts great. When I bought it there was a slight misfire, some leaks from the engine, and it needed a clutch. To take care of these issues I had the engine pulled, at that point the heads were removed and rebuilt at a highly regarded local machine shop due to leaky valve guides that were causing the misfire, with new valve guides and seals as well as a valve grind. At the same time the engine was cleaned, resealed with a new gasket kit and painted in original AMC blue engine paint form Seymor paint. The original flywheel was machined at the same shop the heads were rebuilt and a new LUK clutch kit was installed along with a new starter. The original carburetor was rebuilt at the same time. The Jeep starts easily and runs good although a bit rich (could use some fine tuning). This is a numbers matching Jeep with all of the emissions equipment in place, currently there is not a belt on the smog pump. This Jeep has been in Texas for all but the last three years since I bought it. I have probably driven it less than 300 miles since I have owned it, it has spent this time sitting in my garage. The windshield frame has a rust spot in the center and should probably be replaced. Other than that the rust is isolated to very superficial surface spots as seen in the pictures. The body and floor pans are very solid and clean. The Jeep shows 38257 miles on the odometer, when I bought it I was told that was documented original, I have no way to prove this, but judging by how tight this jeep is and how nice it drives, I think it could be original.
