For a slideshow of 162 GIANT Photos click this link: http://s746.photobucket.com/user/cars2k/slideshow/1962%20Ford%20Ranchero?sort=9 The Ranchero pickup trucks from Ford Motor Company were built between 1957 and 1979. Unlike a pickup truck, the Ranchero was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body. Its unique design with stylish and utilitarian design spawned a competitor from General Motors with the Chevrolet El Camino. 2nd generation Rancheros are coveted by collectors worldwide however, 50 years after production of the series ended, original examples are almost impossible to find. Especially the early “Falcon Ranchero” which commands a premium among enthusiasts. Scores of Ford people that restore older trucks today prefer the original look, combined with "modern" mechanical components. However, there's quite a number of real antique truck lovers, people like us, who desire the original look and "feel." The 1962 survivor Ranchero presented here is a most unique find, sure to please the most ardent admirer of a "second generation" model. The original door tag reveals it: BODY CODE - 66A = Ranchero (Bench) EXTERIOR COLOR - E = Light Blue Metallic INTERIOR TRIM CODE - 74 = Light Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Steerhead Vinyl DATE OF MANUFACTURE - B = February 10, 1962REAR AXLE RATIO CODES - 5 = 3.50:1 non locking differential TRANSMISSION CODE - 1 = 3 Speed manual Shift ASSEMBLY PLANT CODE - H = Lorain, Ohio ENGINE CODE - ENGINE U = 170 Cu Inch Inline 6 This Ranchero has always lived a charmed life. Owned by a prominent businessman in Anaheim, CA, this fantastic Ford was RECONDITIONED BOTH MECHANICALLY AND COMSETICALLY. It’s now garaged and covered among his among a private collection. Hence, a unique opportunity arises to obtain a coveted Falcon Ranchero, one that has enjoyed a most beneficial climate, pampered beyond belief by a mature owner with big pockets and the willingness to pay up for the best upgrades and service money can buy. Let's check out this dream find now, top to bottom, inside and out! Exterior: Refinished some years ago to a driver quality in its original metallic blue color, there are plenty of minor chips, scratches and other cosmetic flaws. The familiar patina assures us this is not a “trailer queen” by any stretch but a wonderful “driver” that is beyond unique and receives thumbs up and smiles from passerby’s everywhere. Like a fine wine, this '62 is well-aged. Many eclectic details truly make it come alive. Correct side mirrors and brightwork. Dent-free roof. Let's check out the pickup bed! A few small dents and scratches but otherwise, tailgate and bed are in original and great condition. Automotive art, indeed! Original 13” Ford wheels wear new Milestar Touring SE P175/80R 13 tires Original chrome hubcaps have acquired an irreplaceable patina as well. While we’re down on one knee, let’s take a close look at the undercarriage. Only after you realize how beat-up most of these trucks are, after over half-a-century of utilitarian use, mind you, you'll be able to fully appreciate this one! Some minor paint bubbling can be seen here along the bottom of the panel. Note the new exhaust and suspension components. Very important: pictures of the underneath: Everything is bone dry; with only miniscule surface rust. A dry climate, California truck is so much easier to live with! Let's enter this vintage cabin. The pickup features a reupholstered bench seat for 3 passengers. Lots of fascinating interior details abound. All gauges, speedometer, switches and heater work. The original Owners Manual is included. While still retaining its original charm, this interior is far more comfortable and safer with upgraded bench seat and seatbelts. Let’s have a peek under the hood. Engine compartment, "au naturel." Nothing added, nothing taken away. The original, bulletproof 170-cid straight-six engine starts easily in any weather, idles and revs smoothly with no unusual noises. There's no smoke, and only a minor oil leak. New battery shown above. Surprisingly, all the wiring is intact under the hood and under the dash and all lights and windshield wipers work. Ford’s mechanical longevity and simplicity is legendary, and this truck keeps the legend alive! Drivablilty: What a joy to pilot this Ranchero! It's a time machine, really, putting you in touch with a long-forgotten world that's only alive today in a few old children's books and vintage black-and-white movies. Time seems to slow down a bit, and you can't help but smile with giddy excitement as you pass through the countryside, daydreaming of living in an old farmhouse with a barn, the blue pickup parked beside it. The truck starts, sounds, runs, shifts, handles, and stops just like you would expect from a low-mileage, vintage Ford. The Three-on-the-tree transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the newly rebuilt brakes stop the truck in a straight line without any hint of fading. There's no shimmying, no rattling, no unruly behavior of any kind. In fact, in its current condition, you could use it as a daily driver or take it cross country. Imagine having a beloved, vintage Ranchero in your driveway, a faithful friend, as spry and chipper as this one. We would like to see this treasure, this time-warp truck belong to someone who appreciates its originality. Here's a very rare opportunity to purchase one of the coolest ’62 Rancheros in existence. It does everything you would expect from a true utility vehicle. It looks gorgeous, and it's ready to be loved for the next 50 years. Spare parts--if needed--and classic car insurance are dirt cheap.
