Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Hello -- For sale is a 2002 VW Jetta TDI Sedan with a fully functional SVO (Straight Vegetable Oil) System. Car is low miles and gets excellent gas milage. Can run it as a regular diesel car or power it with vegetable oil. Either fuel choice produces 40-50 MPG depending on driving conditions. I have been running it primarily with used vegetable oil from restaurants in my neighborhood that I get for FREE and filter myself using a simple filtration system that I'll explain in a bit. I typically collect and filter oil once per year and keep the filtered oil in drums in the garage which I then use to "fill up." The car is mechanically excellent and the SVO system is fully functional. Will provide a brief history of the car and go over some details regarding the SVO system. Purchased the car used in 2008 in Ithaca NY from a single owner with a clean title with intention of converting to SVO. The body had rusting panels on the front as seen in photos, and the interior was stained in back driver side seat. These are more or less the same. The SVO system was installed by VegPower LLC in Ithaca NY immediately after purchase and has been going strong since. It has over 15K and doing great. SVO system. Composed of an 8ga tank in trunk into which you put filtered oil; veggie oil fuel line; counter-current coolant line; fuel filter; toggle switches on dash. Oil travels in fuel line under car, then into fuel filter and injected into engine. You start the car using DIESEL, then turn on veggie system using switches on the dash when the engine is at operating temperature. When done driving, you do the reverse -- switch to diesel for last 1min of your drive so engine is primed with diesel for next cold start. Veggie oil fuel line is always heated by a counter-current line pulling coolant from radiator which is mandatory if you run SVO systems in winter weather. It is simple and has not caused any trouble. From the driver seat you see: 2 switches (one switches b/t veggie tank and factory diesel tank; one turns veggie oil fuel pump on/off); oil filter pressure gauge (tells you when to replace filter, which is usually 1x/year); fuel tank level gauge; oil temperature gauge. The oil temp gauge hasn't worked for the last 3 years which does not affect functioning of system -- you just turn the SVO system on when the engine is at operating temp (185-190) via the normal engine temp gauge. The SVO has been running smoothly for years. In preparation for selling I had the system checked by my mechanic who found it perfectly operational. Performance of the car is identical to diesel. You cannot tell the difference between veggie oil and diesel except that the veggie oil exhaust smells different. The inside of the car does not smell like cooking oil. MPG is over 40 which makes for incredible savings since you can typically find free used vegetable oil. I live in MN and have driven to CA and back for free. I filtered and bring oil and take along my filtration kit and filter along the way. Poorly filtered oil can wear down an engine quickly so the importance of a good filtration system as well as savvy oil selection is important. There are numerous online resources about these issues. One of the best is Golden Fuel Systems website. They have a great DVD on choosing and filtering oil. Filtration system. There are numerous ways to filter oil. Google search this and you'll see infinite approaches. I use a simple system that fits in a rubbermaid bin in the trunk. It consists of an intake line, 2 fuel filters, and an output line. It is powered by a electric pump that runs off the car battery. Basically you put a hose into the diry discarded oil (often a drum or dumpster behind a restaurant), turn the pump on, and out comes filtered oil, which I put into 5 ga jugs. Flow depends on condition of oil but it usually takes less than an hour to fill a 55ga drum. I have found a number of restaurants in my area who pay to have their used oil discarded and are excited that I take it off their hands for free. Free fuel!!! They let me drive around back and filter oil anytime. I barely make a dent in their oil because the car gets such good gas mileage and I don't drive nearly enough. Factory Diesel system. Untouched factory system. You can run this car as a diesel car anytime you want. Why selling? Being a dad of two small kids with full time job it is clear this car isn't right for our family right now. We bought a station wagon and are loving it. We don't use the car unless we take long road trips, which is rare. Features. Aside from the SVO system it has a heated driver's seat which I installed and is lovely. Condition. Mechanically excellent. Has had regular Oil changes since I purchased it. Have all receipts from mechanics. Body has panels with rust as seen in photo. Interior has stains that make the car look used inside. Smoke free always. Pet free. Crash free.
