Vehicle Detail
This was originally a 351-equipped, automatic transmission car that has had a very strong, well-running 429 motor and a 4-speed toploader manual transmission swapped into it. The swap was well-done, and the car looks and drives as if this were the factory motor (maybe better!). The car itself is beautiful and presents very well, although as you may expect from a 45-year-old car, it's not perfect. We bought it in Asheboro, North Carolina in July and drove it home to Orlando, Florida with no issues; with its 429, it literally would pass anything but a gas station! We did average about 13 mpg with it on the open road. It drives and rides beautifully, and drives straight, with no balance or alignment issues. In the words of the previous owner, "It's been well-sorted mechanically." We would drive it anywhere (and have!), and expect it to be reliable; it drives like a much newer car. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts crisply and smoothly; it gets a lot of looks from car people when they see an old LTD that's obviously a manual transmission! The interior is beautiful and, as best as we can tell, totally original, and the hideaway headlamp covers work just fine. Just in driving it around Asheboro for the day we were there, quite a few people stopped us because they recognized "Junior's car." Junior had too many nice cars, and that is also our problem; he may well have the same car-buying addiction that we do. Now for the not-so-perfect stuff: The factory air conditioning is intact, but does not blow cold. The vinyl top will need replacement. There are some small areas of rust, as seen in the photos; nothing bad, and the car is clean underneath. The speedometer does not work more often than it does work. There is a large crack in the middle of the dash, common on these older Fords. The paint is not perfect, but it is quite nice. The radio works fine, and the car is equipped with a VERY long, manually-adjustable antenna. The trunk is huge, and unexpectedly deep. All four wheel covers are currently in the trunk; we, as the previous owner, think it looks better with them off and the black "steelies" showing. She comes, as she currently sits, with a full tank of high-octane, ETHANOL-FREE gasoline. Odometer reads 29,347. Our best guess is that she's on her first well-cared-for trip past 100,000. The car is located in Orlando, Florida, and we are happy to make her available at your convenience for inspection or a test drive. Any questions, please use eBay Messages and we'll respond as quickly as we can, or call Kyle at 352-585-5570 or Don at 407-810-4294. Kyle is the guy who drove her 600 miles on I-95, and both Kyle and Don have driven her to many local car shows since her acquisition in early July. Why is she being sold? If you come to see her and see Don's overloaded driveway, you'll know why. Winning bidder, please pay a $500 deposit via PayPal, with the balance due in cash, bank wire, or cashier's check upon delivery. We will deliver FREE within a 250-mile radius of Orlando (we'd drive her to you); otherwise, shipping arrangements are at the buyer's expense. We can get you a very competitive shipping quote locally if you wish, or arrange your own shipping, and we'll work with your schedule and your shipper's. Delivery to Florida buyers is subject to 6.5% sales tax. Car is sold as-is, with no warranty.
