Vehicle Detail
I don't know if any of you have gone through this progression before, but our family has been wanting to start doing some camping and so we thought we would get a fifth wheel trailer to use. I bought a first generation Dodge with the legendary 5.9 12 valve Cummins Diesel to pull the fifth wheel. But once we started looking at them and thinking about it some more we decided to get a standard trailer that we could tow behind the vehicle and everyone could ride up front in the vehicle while traveling. So I bought my favorite year Suburban which is the 1999, the last year of the classic body style that I love. After doing more research and pricing trailers, we decided to just rent an RV when we wanted to travel and go in style, which is what we have done. I now have this beautiful Suburban and the Dodge that I will be selling. I will outline the Suburban below in detail. HISTORY: I purchased this Suburban from the original owner about 4 months ago up in Prescott, Arizona where it lived most of it's life. He was an airline pilot and an engineer. He was in his late 60's and his family was grown up and they no longer needed such a large vehicle and he was selling several of his vehicles as he was downsizing his home as well. It has always had Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil used since the first oil change and had been meticulously maintained. Just looking at the condition of his garage and his other vehicles made me realize that this guy was very particular about his stuff and the suburban had been very well cared for, it was obvious. It had always been in garaged and it shows. He always performed his own maintenance as he did not trust others to work on his vehicles and he kept a very detailed maintenance log since the truck was new and this will be included in the sale along with the original window sticker for the suburban ($38,398 purchase price new). EXTERIOR: The Suburban looks beautiful from all angles, even underneath. It is completely 100% rust-free and all original paint with no bodywork or accidents ever. The paint shines like new with no clearcoat fading or burn on the paint or the moldings, which is a common problem on these here in Arizona. The rims are American Racing aluminum rims wrapped in nearly new Michelin LTX tires with the Discount tire warranty and paperwork included ($1,127). Roof rack up top and tow package underneath all in great shape. All lenses are clear and bright. Two very small door dings on the entire vehicle and a few very minor scratches and chips consistent with a 16 year old vehicle but overall it shows very well and is a beautiful rig. INTERIOR: This is the LT package which is fully loaded with very nice leather seating, factory carpeted floor mats in great shape, front and rear COLD AC, AM/FM/CD/Cassette factory unit sounds great, power driver's seat, power windows, power door locks, Cruise control, intermittent wipers, all gauges work perfectly and the truck is super comfortable to drive with captains chairs up front with both a center floor console and overhead console. The leather is all in great shape with only minor wear on the driver's seat bottom and a small imperfection on the second row seat fold down cup holder (see pic). Headliner is perfect. Carpets are in great shape including the entire rear cargo area. The truck has never been smoked in and never any pets in the car. I have had several of these suburbans over the years and this one is, by far, the nicest one and was just kept in awesome condition. MECHANICAL: The truck is in excellent mechanical condition and could be driven across country tomorrow with no worries whatsoever. The 7.4 L big block provides plenty of power and the truck just cruises effortlessly on the highway. 42 gallon fuel tank for great traveling range. Only 123000 original miles on this rig which is very low for the year (about 7500 miles per year). These were designed to tow and are the choice vehicle for many car enthusiasts because they tow so well. This is equipped with the Heavy Duty Trailering Package. It is the three quarter ton suspension so the ride is a bit more stiff then the half-ton suburbans. It tracks straight and true and stops straight and true. No funny noises or oddities. The transmission shifts perfectly as well. While it is not a new vehicle, it drives like one with tight steering and no hesitation. It does not leak a drop of any fluids and does not burn any oil between oil changes. The meticulous maintenance really shows on this vehicle. The one thing that could be addressed is the rear cargo door actuator which usually does not work. Some of the other door lock actuators were working sporadically when I first got the truck but they seemed to have lubricated themselves and are all working much better now. The original owner addressed this issue when I was there looking at the Suburban and his explanation made sense. He said that the Suburban was always garaged at night and during the day he mainly drove it around the community that he lived in and never locked the truck when he was out driving. So the door locks were seldom used which could have caused them to "gum up" a bit and stick. Like I said, they are all doing much better with regular use, except the rear cargo door which I usually still have to use the key to lock or unlock. I have replaced many of these over the years and they are an easy replacement and not an expensive part ($29.79 at Rock Auto). SUMMARY: This is a hard to find, well kept and really a one owner vehicle most of it's life that is in exceptional shape and would make any Suburban enthusiast very proud. It is the last year of this desirable body style and has tons of life left in it. I may be listing this in other media so I do reserve the right to end the auction early should it sell elsewhere. As with any older vehicle it is sold "as is" with no warranty expressed or implied. There is a $500 deposit payable through Paypal due within 24 hours of the auction's end. With appropriate arrangements, I can pick up buyers at the Tucson Airport with the Suburban should you want to fly in and drive it home. Check the pictures, check my feedback and bid with confidence. Good Luck!
