Having a slightly larger wheelbase, a hard top, and larger engine appealed especially here in the states, but abroad as well. Today, FJ40's are known as one of the most iconic off road vehicles to ever be built. FJ40's spanned a very long production time. Throughout its production it featured many different options - some more desirable than others. If you do your research, Im sure you will find that 1976 is a special year because it features not only the larger engine, 4 speed transmission, rear ambulance style doors, and disk brakes... But the best of the sheet metal to be used during its production years. Although vehicles made after 1976 are very valuable too, the quality of the metal used in the newer trucks is less desirable. Many argue that the options available (air conditioning and power steering) on the newer models outweigh the value of the better metal. But I personally disagree because finding a vehicle with factory air and power steering is very difficult. I would go as far as to argue that these vehicles are too rare for an amateur collector/restorer. It is much more common to find an older truck with aftermarket air system and either a saginaw or scout style power steering system adapted. The FJ40 I present to you for sale on this ad is what I would consider to be a driver condition. I say that because all of its mechanicals and more difficult modifications (day 2 mods) have already been done. Including the larger tires, lift kit, and rear sill replacement. THIS IS NOT A 350 SBC SWAP!!!! It should be noted that I do have the period correct (non tubular) spare tire mount. The beauty of this truck is in its proven reliability as a daily driver. while it only shows 76,000 original miles, it is especially evident that the 2 previous owners have taken especially good care of the vehicle.
