Vehicle Detail

1989 Red Corvette coupe. . .a driver's car=============================Step back a quarter-century and relish the driving experience with the "smoked-glass" Targa top Chevy Corvette Coupe. This car is considered the most-fuel-efficient 350ci/5.7L Tuned MultiPort fuel-injected V8 ever produced by GM (I get about 14-15mpg around the city, but between 25-36mpg highway in 6th gear at 70+mph, with the variance depending on terrain). This car sports a glossy red exterior with black interior, and has the leather sports seats option for both driver and passenger. It has many advanced features for its time that have only recently become available for modern cars, such as computer analytics with configurable "complications" of dashboard items, such as real-time/average MPG, temperatures or pressures, voltage, anti-theft, on-board diagnostics [ver. 1/OBD1], miles or kilometers, trip or total mileage/km odometer. This '89 Corvette beauty has the advanced ZF 6-speed manual transmission for quick and smooth shifting, and is not only fun to drive and looks super, but she runs great and has been very reliable. Pirelli High-Performance P-Zero wide run-flat tires are over 10-years old, but they have lots of tread left and the rubber is stable (due to regular, but low-mileage use). A very nice vehicle, maintained with care. I'll miss her, but you'll love her!I am car's 3rd owner at 117,000 miles in September 2011, and have put only 12,000 miles on it since then, when AutoCheck rated it as a "51" - above the 24-50 range for "Average", and now it's rated at "42". I will be moving to South Florida in soon and prefer not to add the 3000+ miles of a trip bringing this head-turning classic with me across the desert heat, but will if it doesn't sell for the desired price. These include the interior door panel top rails that are coming loose when the door is closed due to brittle plastic fasteners in the door panel assemblies. I was also bothered by the crack that developed on June 11, 2013 - when I parked in the sun at an Elk Grove shopping center for an hour with 117-degree sunlight - argh! The 3-piece rear deck lid has cracks around the fastener holes, and it rattles on rough roadways. The leather shift knob cover thread startled unraveling recently. I didn't get around to replacing a rear backlight bulb that has gone out in the left side of the dashboard display, which slightly decreased the brightness intensity on the left side. The hand-stitched original leather cover on the shift knob also has a thread that began to recently unravel. I am an enthusiast of Red Line synthetic motor oil (1040) and coolant products. Fuel filter changed at regular intervals along with air cleaner and oil. Very smooth and steady on the highway - especially with the cruise control, and can get up to 34mpg in 6th gear. Always starts, and has excellent "get-up-and-go" power and acceleration. I use a water-resistant reflective coated CoverKing car cover when I have to park the car outside for extended periods. Cargo area carpet is in great shape. More details: Although I use a low-profile fitted carpet dash cover, the dash developed a single crack near the middle on the right side. The doors operate without problem, windows work without any hitch, no problems on hatchback (including fully functional rear defroster), headlights motors work without problem, LCD dash (speedometer/tachometer) works great, but needs a replacement bulb for left-side bright illumination. The AC is cold (serviced just prior to my purchase in late 2011), door panel top rails are loose and show wear. Very smooth/tight shifting and transmission. Fuel mileage is surprisingly good, and the engine is known as the most fuel-efficient V8 ever produced by GM (IU get 15mpg in town, and 30-34mpg on highway). Adjustable sport seat motors function (one passenger seat adjustment button is intermittent). Clean carpeting. It does not use oil/fluids (I check often), i.e. power steering, clutch, etc. Windshield wiper motor and blades rotate very steady. minor pits/dents on hood (nice paint), but some clear coat cracks are slightly visible in the center. Emblems (front and back) not faded or sun worn at all. I use K & N air filter plus Red Line Synthetic motor oil. The only areas showing wear: driver and passenger seats are original with CoverKing neoprene covers, and driver side carpet area by gasoline pedal. Top rails on door panels are coming loose, especially on passenger side. The driver's side door panel light has a cracked lens cover and the bulb is dead or light no longer works. Pirelli tires have plenty of tread and have never been flat/patched/etc. FlowMaster dual exhaust installed in 2013 with polished chrome exhaust pipe ends. Gas cap works without any problem. Clear title, and I drive only about 5000 miles a year with this car. Includes reflective CoverKing car cover. The car has never failed a smog check. I run only Chevron Supreme gasoline. Exceptions/Blemishes that come with age: cracked interior rear deck plastics, dashboard crack, low dashboard illumination on left side (needs replacement backlight bulb), interior door panels have no cracks in upholstery, but door handle plates do have cracks and the top rails have broken plastic fasteners (especially loose on passenger side), clear coat cracking in center of hood, misc scratches, oxidation of plastic front and rear bumpers, rip in leather driver seat and shift nob leather cover, broken rear radio antenna (motor still works), rear speakers disconnected and need to be replaced/refurbished). . . I feel confident that this car will pass the good on-site inspection checklist that is publicly-available at www -dot- corvette buyers -dot- com/c4vettes/prepurchase.htm. I will continue to append/amend this listing with additional pictures and details, including the "Exceptions/Blemishes" - as time permits. Questions and inquiries welcome. Local test drives by interested buyers are highly encouraged! **I am taking the car in Monday 8/3 for complete service to prep it for the trip, which would also be good for the potential buyer — oil and fluid changes, and any aspect determined by the mechanic to need service.
