Vehicle Detail
1976 Porsche 912e. Excellent looking/driving example of a 1 year only Porsche. This model was the "stop gap" vehicle produced at the end of the 914 production and the beginning of the 924 model. Only about 2100 made. 500 with Sunroof and A/C. This one has new paint in it's original Metallic Silver color. The car was painted guards red at one point, but recently returned to Silver (#936 color code). High quality "windows out" paint. Not perfect, but very nice. I'll give it a 9+ outta 10. Interior in all new. Headliner, sail panels, door panels, rear shelf, door panels, carpet, Seats with new foam. Stunning red. Original color of the interior from what I can tell was black. No cracks on dash pad. Center console added to accomadate A/C controls. Again. not perfect/concours, but really nice. Drives/shifts great with new brakes. shift bushings. pedal bushings, rear shocks, tires, and allignment. Goes down the road straight and doesn't pull when applying the brakes. Wheels are 16"x6" all around. I just had them power coated in a "frost" type silver finish. They look excellent. Motor has recently been gone though with docs. New cam to work with Dellarto carbs. Nice power from the original Type 4 VW motor. I also upgraded the A/C with Rotary Type Compressor and barrier hoses. It worked excellent for about three weeks. There is a small leak somewhere. I haven't addressed it yet. I removed the under dash vent system, and left one vent on the bulkhead where the blower originates, Works great! Interior is missing door pockets, but ready to bolt on with included hardware. Speedo shows 90K, but can't confirm actual. I purchased this from a retired gentleman that had been working on this car for years, He went through a lot of time and money to make it as nice as possible. He commisioned the paint, headliner install, windows install, motor rebuild, and he did the re-assembly of the bumpers/trim, and I did the rest to complete the car to where it is currently. He provided me with pictures of the progress of this car. Very good documentation. He lost interest. I can provide additional pictures per request. I installed a modified Bursch exhust that has a welded stainless steel tip, and great sounding muffler. It does have heat exchangers. I purchased new flapper boxes and cables. The heat works. All electrical works, except the rear defroster. According to the previous owner, it's unplugged from the window. Even the clock and cig lighter. No rust. I don't know of any accident history. The engine starts right up, and runs great. Some spitting when cold. Two things that I would consider doing in the future, but do not effect the cars drivability are: broken dip stick tube, and a little clutch "chatter" in first. Since it's a brand new clutch. I would suspect that the flywheel should be turned. Just my guess. This is a great driver. I wouldn't call it a show car, but maybe a winner at a local event. Looks fantastic, but some small imperfections. Nothing major. When painted, the doors, hood, and front fenders were removed. Could stand some tweeking, but not bad enough for me to address. Please email me with any questions that you may have, or addition pictures that you would like to see. These cars, like all air cooled Porsches are moving fast in pricing. Jump in any time!
