Vehicle Detail
OK... First things first. This is my 2007.5 (newer body style, they changed it mid year) Chevy 2500HD LMM Duramax. THE TRUCK IS NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING, AND THE BUYER WILL NEED TO TRAILER IT UPON PICKUP. So this is a fairly high milage vehicle by todays standards with approx. 292,000 miles. I have owned the truck for a few years and it has ran perfectly up until about 3 months ago. So the story goes like this, I'm driving home from work one day and I get the infamous "reduced engine power" on the dash, it says clean exhaust filter. So this being my first diesel I ask some buddies at work and try to get a reference for a good local diesel mechanic. I reference the internet and forums a little bit and start changing the easy inexpensive items, like the fuel/air/oil filters, and the the fuel again. I also changed the mass air flow sensor and then decide to take it to the first shop i get referred to, he says ok simple enough fix he installs removes the DPF filter and the whole stock exhaust from the downpipe back with a 4" MBRP exhaust and 5" MBRP exhaust tip. Then installs EFI live to allow the truck to run without the DPF, tells me he is going to disable the EGR system as well with the tuner and says while I'm at it i'll put a 50 or 60ish HP tune on there and you'll be good to go... I pay the Guy a lot of money leave his shop and it runs great for about a month. BOOM! "reduced engine power" again, so I call the guy and he never returns my calls and its an hour drive for me to drive to his shop so I say forget this guy if he's not going to return my calls I'll take my business elsewhere. Ok on to the second guy he thinks its electrical we replaced the MAF sensor, MAP sensor. The truck runs good again for a month or so and then the Limp mode comes back again, but its very intermittent and will drive perfectly for a week and then screw up and sometimes you could just turn the truck off and restart it and the limp mode would go away. It was very frustrating and I was starting to wonder if there were any good duramax guys in my area. I go to a third and final mechanic and he says that his diagnosis equipment is telling him that the EGR valve is INOP. I already had purchased the part way back when the truck began acting up the first time and I was just trying to sell diagnose using the internet and different forums, I am an jet engine mechanic professionally so I tell the guy I've already got the part so I'll just take it home a R&R it myself and I paid him his diagnoses fee and went on my way. I get the thing home start pulling parts getting access to the EGR valve/cooler. Sure enough the entire egr valve is plugged 100% solid with black carbon soot... Being the OCD guy that I am I tell myself if I'm going to fix this I've got to clean all of this sooty stuff out of the whole intake system and I my plan was to pull the pull the intake get it hot tanked and do the PVC reroute to prevent future problems. but to pull the intake you have to pull the turbo and I bagged and tagged all of the electrical connectors and was going to attempt to do all of this and eventually realized after a few nights of curse words and internet research on LMM turbo/ intake removal that It was way more involved than I care to do in my driveway. So I didn't even start pulling the turbo or the intake and it has been sitting for a few weeks now, and I decided to pass on a great opportunity to some one who likes to tinker more than I do. My 12 hour days pretty much take it out of me and I also have three other vehicles to maintain. Here is a quick list of new parts that have been installed or are ready for you to install -Installed 2 new OEM GM headlights-4 Goodyear MTR with Kevlar tires LT265/75r16 load range E (less than 2k miles)-4 new monroe shocks with monroe steering stabilizer-New MAP & MAF OEM sensors-new fuel/air/oil filter-New OEM fuel in water sensor-EGR valve with victor reinz gaskets-New victor reinz intake gasket kit and fuel injector seals (if you decide to get ocd like i was going to)-mishimoto hot side intercooler pipe and boot kit-DRP PVC reroute kit with plug. I am sure there is more that i have missed. I was told by the last mechanic that he had dug into LMM's with 300K and that they still had the crosshatching on the cylinder walls. I was also confidently reassured that he didn't think that it was an injector issue based on the intermittency of my problems. So the buyer could either just spend a few days putting it all back together with a new egr valve and all the gaskets, or pull the intake/turbo and then do an egr/cooler delete and all that jazz. But I'm Done, I don't have the time or the energy, but my loss is your gain. If you have questions feel free to call me @316-305-4614 and i'll do my best to answer them. On May-06-15 at 07:42:11 PDT, seller added the following information: The truck also has a spray in bed liner, and there is no 5th wheel ball so it hasn't been a driven hard and put away wet. Mostly just highway miles.
