The 2008 Saturn Vue XE is a five-passenger compact SUV that is rated #1 by Car & Driver Magazine and has a five-star safety rating. With sporty, European styling, it is based on the Opel Antera and uses high quality materials throughout. Although Saturn vehicles are no longer being made, factory parts and warranty service are still supported by GM dealers nationwide and because the Vue was so popular, the exact same SUV is still being made today but is called the Chevrolet Captiva. It is also sold in more than 50 markets across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and South America with the model names like Antara, Winstorm and MaXX. Getting over 25 MPG, this front-wheel drive Vue XE comes standard with a 2.4-liter inline-4 (169 hp and 160 lb-ft of torque) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission with 16-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, keyless entry, full power accessories, OnStar telematics, steering-wheel audio controls, cruise control and tilt steering wheel. Back in 2008, my wife spent a great deal of time researching new SUVs. She picked this Saturn Vue XE with the 4-cylinder engine because of its superior safety rating, great fuel economy and outstanding GM backed warranty program. On November 11th, 2007 she leased this Vue (brand new) at Saturn of Riverside with the Premium interior/exterior package which includes luggage rack rails, automatic climate control, a height-adjustable, 8-way power driver seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats and mirrors, lighted vanity mirrors and a premium audio system with 6-disk, in-dash CD/MP3 stereo with satellite radio and an auxiliary jack. In 2011, the lease ended, but our love affair for this wonderful SUV had just begun - so we turned it into a purchase. For the past 7 years, it has been a SUPERIOR and RELIABLE all-around vehicle for her 60-mile (highway) work commute. Additionally, our family has always enjoyed countless SAFE and COMFORTABLE cross-country trips, weekend getaways and Home-Depot runs in this wonderful Vue. There are many reasons why this Saturn has been RELIABLE and still LOOKS NEW. But mainly it is because we’ve kept it pampered and meticulously maintained AT THE DEALER since it WAS NEW. Let’s have a closer look now. Finished in the most desirable color combination; Golden Cashmere with tan leather interior, this SUV is a cut above the rest. The unique, German designed fender vents and integrated turn signals add a European flare to this stunning SUV. The luggage rack is ideal for carrying extra or bulky cargo on cross-country trips or weekend getaways. All of the paint still displays a wonderful luster. With the exception of some small imperfections, namely a few scratches and rock chips in isolated places, the 100% original finish still sparkles and shines like new model. Brand new factory recommended Firestone Destination LE2 radials are mounted to 16” alloy wheels which still have amazing detail. Speaking of detail, let us stress how straight the body is, how glossy the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, you'd think to be looking at a 7-month old, not an 7-year old SUV. This one is that clean! Let’s have a look inside the roomy cabin. The Vue's spacious interior has a posh appearance with hi-end materials indicative of European cars. With leather and heated seating, there is abundant head and legroom for 5 passengers and a wealth of safety features including front seat side airbags, side curtain airbags and active head restraints. The 8-way power driver seat with height adjustment provides comfort and vision for every body type; from the too-tall driver to pint-size pilots. Controls are simple and well-marked. An array of chrome-accented round shapes, from the gauges to the air vents to the automatic climate controls, lend a sense of classic style to the cabin. Brushed-aluminum accents on the steering wheel, door panels, parking brake and shift knob as well as wood grain trim further the upscale treatment. The pristine dash and console features automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with radio controls and a premium audio system with 6-disk, in-dash CD/MP3 stereo, satellite radio and an auxiliary jack which guarantees pleasurable audio with your iPod, or portable media device. And the 94,961 highway miles were meticulously maintained and documented AT THE DEALER. The original Owner’s Manuals, Maintenance Book and both keys with remotes are included. From the headliner and dash, to the leather seats and carpet; everything in this immaculate, non-smoker interior looks, smells and operates as a highly pampered SUV should. Let’s peek inside the rear hatch. The spacious, carpeted rear cargo area has 56 cubic feet of storage capacity. When the split, 60/40 rear seats fold-down (the front passenger seat also folds flat) storage is dramatically increased. Below this partition are additional compartments. It’s the perfect combination of performance and economy. Beyond religious oil and fluid changes, all major services were performed at the dealer. Just last year, the transmission was replaced (by the dealer). Recent service reports suggest that transmission replacement every 10 years or 100,000 miles is considered a “maintenance item” on these Saturn drivetrains which are otherwise bulletproof. So this is one very costly expense that you will be spared. Other recent maintenance items include new hub bearings, battery and factory recommended Firestone tires to ensure trouble free driving for years to come. As a result, this Vue is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically. Yes, any Saturn can be very tough and reliable with a bit of preventative maintenance! Drivability: With driving characteristics on par with Germany’s finest BMW and Mercedes Benz, piloting this Saturn Vue is a truly satisfying experience. In any climate, the powerful 2.4 liter, 4-cylinder DOHC engine starts every time, idles, revs and pulls effortlessly without unusual noises or hesitation and accelerates strong and smooth leaving no smoke in your rear-view mirror. In any driving condition, engine temperature remains absolutely stable, with no hint of overheating - even in the summertime and rush hour traffic. The fresh 4-speed, automatic transmission shifts seamlessly. Power steering is precise and the four-wheel, vented ABS disc brakes anchor the SUV securely, in a straight line, and without any hint of fading. Aided with brand new Firestone radial tires, handling is superb with no rattles, shakes, shimmies or pulls. The Saturn Vue is tuned for a soft ride, but steering feel and action is spot on, allowing easy maneuverability in parking lots while providing a solid, confident feel at speed on winding roads and interstate freeways.
