Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a 1964 Triumph Herald Convertible. This car has an amazingly good body and frame, but like nearly all car photos, it probably tooks better in the pictures than in close up real life. Nevertheless it is solid and attractive. It has been repainted once, years ago. This car had been in Florida most of its life. I bought it from the son of the original owner. So it has had a long continuous presence in one family until I purchased it in late Summer. The son (who used the car going to high school and college) brought the car to Pittsburgh after moving here, but it became a casualty of a busy life with less and less use and attention accumulating its toll. I decided to take it on as a project and the following things were done:New batteryRebuilt starterRebuilt generatorNew Voltage RegulatorRefurbished and sealed gas tankNew motor mountsRebuilt or replaced all hydraulics including: Front Calipers Rear Cylinders New brake hoses Clutch and brake master cylinders New clutch slave cylinder The car runs sweetly and quietly, shifts, stops and turns well. The exhaust system is fine. The tires are nearly new and not cracked or crazed due to the fact that the car has been garaged out of the harmful rays of the sun. There is a nice car cover also included. The top is in acceptable condition; all the glass is ok.The interior could use some cleaning and adjustments but there are no rips or tears in the upholstery. The DIY carpet installation by the original owner could use replacement. The dashboard is a replacement item, not as nice as an original. All the glass is good. The car would be improved by a thorough tidying-up of the interior and the electrics. For example, there is an original Triumph radio, but it is not working or perhaps just not powered. The heater is present but disconnected. I think the car represents an excellent point at which further enhancements would prove valuable inasmuch as the basic mechanicals have been proven sound. An owners manual, a Workshop Manual some period advertisements and a few spare parts are included with the sale. This Triumph Herald would be an excellent farther/son project and will benefit from the time and attention to detail completion that I cannot undertake at this time. Many parts are shared with the contemporaneous Triumph Spitfire, but the body style is not one you see every day. I have what I consider a very reasonable reserve on this auction. I do have the car for sale locally, so I may have to cancel this auction should it be sold through other means. Of course transport of this car cannot take place until full payment has been made. Transportation of the car from my garage will be the buyer's responsibility but I will assist to the degree reasonable and possible. There are no guarantees, expressed or implied, concerning this 50+ year old car. I will require a $500 down payment by PayPal or cash and this should be followed within two weeks by final payment in cash or by wire transfer. Please send any questions via eBay; I will reply promptly. On Jan-12-15 at 05:49:44 PST, seller added the following information: I should add to the description of the body that there are some small penetrations in the floor of the trunk below the fuel tank and in the spare tire well. Also, during the repaint mentioned in the original text, the driver's side floor and the rocker panels on both sides were repaired at that time. The repairs have held up well since then.
