Vehicle Detail
Amazing old Ford truck. You seldom find a Midwest truck that doesn't have serious rust issues. This dry old truck was purchased brand new by a neighboring farmer. It was primarily used during the fall harvest and was garaged most of it's life including the last 10 continuous years. I had been looking for a "barn find" vehicle for some time. I live in California but have farm property here in Illinois near Bloomington. The truck is at our farm, area code is 61744. When I discovered that this truck might be for sale from the grandson I bought it immediately. Meantime I found another old Ford and decided that it might be too costly to ship both back to my home in Orange Ca. Hence I am putting this one up for sale. I have someone lined up to bring it out to California in February if no one is interested in buying it I will add it to my stable. I have a 53 Studebaker here for sale for the same price, so if it sells I will be keeping the 54 Ford. I don't need any help in selling it, If you bid and buy please have positive feedback and know what your doing. This truck has the original "in line" overhead valve 6 cylinder engine with the factory "Cost Clipper" decal on the valve cover. She is a standard 3 speed shift on the column. Clutch does not slip however it doesn't activate until you're almost all the way up on the pedal so it takes a bit to learn. Remember these are geared pretty low. (A 9 inch would be a great addition.) Original Radio, (antenna is missing) good head liner, all the gauges, and heater work. The glove box is solid and the original green paint on the dash is beautiful. The cardboard on the visors and the headliner is amazing. The vac wipers work, turn signals and all the lights. At this point in time the truck starts right up, runs and drives like an old farm tuck. Yes it would be a good candidate to street rod or do a V8...but then again there is a lot to say about having it all original. Note the pictures are as I pulled it out of the barn, Usually pictures make a car look better than it is, however in this case I think the truck looks better in person than in the photos. If you contact me leave your phone number and I can text you additional pictures...and also refer you to the You Tube link under "gridleyfarmer" where you can hear it run. If there are things one might consider negative here they are...Ugly stock rims. This truck has 8 lug rims that are strictly for farm use. The tires were 16 inch bias that were almost square on one side so I bought a pretty good set of Radials..so I could drive it. We did the brakes and put on a new master cylinder and tune up with new wires. Put on new stock muffler and tail pipe and changed oil etc. The front fenders have some tiny dents, Of course the old original green paint has that vintage patina with some primer showing through (which is exactly the look I wanted) The running boards have been worn through and there are solid welded plates covering that area. The good news is that it still has the original wood slats in the bed, the bad is that a couple of the planks are damaged. Driver window is cracked but widows roll down easily and doors shut as new. I tried to show in pictures how clean the body corners, floorboards doors are. It has a new correct factory muffler. New valve cover gasket. That about covers it, new title in my name. No Pay Pal ....If you have additional questions please email me, I had put this up earlier and it fell just short of my reserve so now I'm just doing the buy it now price. Please cut and paste this YOU TUBE Video... I did not include that the last time I listed the truck. Good luck, Positive feedback always given in return for same. To see and hear truck running e-mail me and I will direct you to the You Tube Video where you can see it in action. I also have the tan 53 Studebaker you see if interested at the same price and a nice 49 DeSoto street rod for 10K. E-mail me. My dog Tug says, one of these cars goes or my master might sell me. Thanks for looking, Tom, retired in sunny Orange Ca.
